I brought my BG readings down by significantly reducing the carbs in my diet.
This means I reduced my intake of bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and root vegs to a certain extent too, as well as removing sugar from my diet. And my DN told me only to have 3 portions of fruit a day too, which is hard for me as that's what I would enjoy for a snack in my previous life if I was dieting.
Don't get me wrong, I do eat carbs and if I could be bothered to count it would probably be less than 100g a day. Oh and we've switched to wholemeal pasta, brown rice and wholemeal or granary small sized bread. For example, if we have a family meal of spag bol, I'll only have a one spoonful of spaghetti and have lots of the bolognase. I'm also trying to lose weight so my portions are based on achieving weight loss as well as better control.
It's definitely working for me.
I bought a handbag sized carb book so that I could learn and make better choices when I'm out too. Hope that helps!🙂
