Hi William - Welcome to the mad house - sometimes crazy and sometimes serious so a good mix all round :D

Hi Willliam, welcome to the forum, Al

William2003. Just to say Hello. I am Type 2 and was diagnosed in 2000. I am on Humulin i 44units, 4 x 500mg Metformin, 1 x 5mg Dapagliflozin. My last HBA1C was 59 in February.
Hi William, welcome to the forum 🙂 How have things been for you over the years?

@Northerner, Thank You for the Welcome. You are all a friendly and welcoming bunch of guys & gals🙂. I was diagnosed nearly 16 years ago, and only began using Humulin i 44 units Insulin in July, 2014 and I am also taking 4 x 500mg of Metformin and 1 x 5mg Dapagliflozin daily. My HBA1C was 81 this time last year and by November 2015 it was 64 and now in February down to 59. I almost reached 15 stone last year and now I am down to 12 stone 1Olbs. My target is to be exactly 12 stone, but the 10lbs is "stalking" me and will not leave!!! I do not follow LCHF Diet that a lot of type 2's follow. I can honestly say that I am still learning about Diabetes - even now. Well, that's enough about me - hope you've not fallen asleep!!:D

Hi William. Have you ever thought to yourself 'I wonder what would happen if I DID cut down on my carbs a bit?' Cos I'm thinking that stubborn 10lbs would probably disappear!!

Sheesh - one of the first things I learned as a podgy early teenager about the time 'Congratulations/Bachelor Boy' hit the shops (or it may have been 'She Loves You' or possibly 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand'), and years before diabetes was with me - was if I cut down on bread, spuds, jam roly poly and syrup sponge etc etc - though I never actually achieved the full Twiggy-ness that I aspired to - I was a damn sight slimmer than before!

@trophywench - Hi Jenny, Thanks for your reply. I am a vegetarian - well not 100% as I do eat eggs, Seafood, cheeseburgers, Lasagne and a fussy eater basically. All fruit and veg is grown organically on my Allotment and any excess is turned into Jam and chutney. Have on l y started eating Eggs a month ago as GP asked me to try them because I am treated with Iron Tablets for Aneamia for last 4 years.

William - did you know that long term Metformin use ( and I'd call 16 years long term LOL) can actually cause a Vit B12 deficiency - ie what they used to call Pernicious anaemia? Is that why you are anaemic or were you anyway?

Stuff like spring greens, kale and spinach also have shedloads of iron - you aren't condemned to eating raw liver for it any more, like when I was little Ughh! (I like it cooked, but Aaarghh LOL) We didn't get masses of choice in the early 1950s of course, you still had to have what the butcher had, when he had it. And it was sposed to be Good For You - so my mother always insisted!

Anyway - so the only stodge you eat is the fruit in that jam and chutney (and both have loads of sugar!) and lasagne? I have no prob whatever with your choices of protein. And then there's that allotment so I daresay you can hardly be accused of lack of exercise either!

No bread? No spuds?

@trophywench - Strange as it may seem, my B12 is normal! I have blood test every 3 months to check my Ferritin Levels and it's always round about 17. No, I don't eat the jams or chutney. I have done food dairies for the Dieticians and been told to continue what I am doing, my Diabetologist is happy with my diet too. I will soon be eating salads so hopefully that 10lbs will be shed and I will get to my target of 12 stone. My blood sugars are all within range too.

Welcome aboard William 2003, hope you find it useful, you've done incredibly well with the weight loss, and that's a brilliant improvement in the hba1c 🙂. Pre-diagnosis I always had a stubborn 4lbs that I wanted to shed, I didn't need to but I always liked the idea of being exactly in the middle of the weight range, my body resisted, It clearly liked those 4lb more than I did! Anyway just wanted to say hello and welcome :D

Hi William. I'm still fairly new to this diabetes lark. Diagnosed in Jan with a HbA1c of 86. I decided to go LCHF & I've lost nearly a stone since diagnosed & expecting much lower HbA1c next week (hoping for 48 but maybe too optimistic🙂).

@Mark Parrott - Hello.🙂. Yes, the LCHF Diet is very good, and I see no reason why you shouldn't lower your HBA1C - I don't follow it because I want/need to keep my Cholesterol at 3.4. It's quite a shock when you get the diagnoses of Diabetes (unless you expected it as in my case) just take each and every day as it comes, and try not to overload your mind at taking in to much information at once. You do have a meter? And are testing? William 2003

Yes I have a meter. In fact today I am experimenting and testing every hour thoughout the day to see what happens. Normally I test before meals & 2 hours after. My cholesterol is also high (7.2) but apparently LCHF can also lower it. Will find out on 12th April when I get my results.
