I have answered a post on here about the situation that produces a massive amount of ' Bottom burps '! When medicated with Metformin! I agree that if you are using the drug to counteract your diet of Carbohydrates? It will cause horrendous and occasional painful consequences and your bottom burps will sound like your personal ' Brass Band'! ( I used to be a rugby player until my back injuries stopped it.)
Stay away from large portions of CARBS and read the information labels on all foods referring to = Carbohydrates of which Sugars! I know it is not easy to find any foods with a sugar content below 5% or 5g ! Keeping your diet under strict supervision will help your circumstances and help you to keep slim and healthy. I do recommend the Granola from Aldi. Which is less than 5% Sugars and incredibly tasty! Good luck.
My other problems are the following:-
Wheelchair user
Degenerative disc disease
Fibromyalgia
Facet joint disease
Depression
Medications include
Morphine tablets and liquid. 6x daily
Tramadol
Duloxetine 60+30. Mg
I'm incredibly lonely and have lost a lot in fact all of my so called friends! But if I can help anyone? I will !
Good luck, keep smiling when you can?

Hi @Costa.addict and welcome 🙂 I never had any side effects with metformin, but I have lived with my "personal brass band" all my life, so maybe I just can't tell which is the metformin and which is my natural state!

It sounds like you are having a really bad time of it at the moment and are in a lot of pain. It's good that you can keep smiling in such circumstances :D My partner was on tramedol for the best part of a year (waiting for a knee replacement) and that came with its own side effects, I know he hated it.

I hope you find the forum useful and friendly. When you suffer from bad health there is no doubt you find out who your friends really are. Good to have you on board 🙂

I suggest that T2D's avoid all breakfast cereals. Eggs, bacon, cheese, cold meats or fish are much better way to start the day.
The last thing you need is to ruin a good low-insulin night time fast by eating lots of carbs and getting your Insulin spiking again!

Ian,

I absolutely agree - it's that word 'fat' which scares people - it's a deliberate marketing ploy.

Welcome to the forum @Costa.addict

You have mentioned that you are focusing on the ‘of which sugar’. This may be low on some products, but unfortunately it will be the total carbohydrates that will be converted to glucose once inside us. (I frequently shout at the radio when they keep referring to sugar in relation to diabetes). the sugar content may give you an indication of how quickly some of the foods will convert to glucose.

It would be useful to start working out the total carbs in each of the meals that you eat (And may be a bit of surprise) You can then start to make swaps to lower carb options and/or reduce portion sizes to bring those totals down.

I was eating hardly any carbs for the first few weeks after diagnosis and the prescription for Metformin, and it seemed intent on turning me inside out, so the advice to avoid carbs might not be useful for everyone.
Thankfully it turned out that I don't need Metformin - but it is such a strong deterrent to even thinking about eating anything high carb that the experience was not entirely wasted.
