Quick question it's basically ok to eat whatever we want as long as we cover the carbohydrate isn't it, thanks in advance x

Short answer, yes. Longer answer, yes, but many of us tend to watch what we eat anyway and save the naughty stuff for special occasions, cos we feel better for it.

Oh I'm not talkig anything too naughty like pudding or anything (that will be on the menu for Christmas and New Year though) 🙂 just like a couple of toaster waffles or pancakes for breakfast as really fancy a pancake haha x

Go for it.

Good answer Alison 😉. All my life I have never just had a bag of crisps etc, because of having to have an injection. Now on a pump its easier 🙂

I try to balance all the foods that I want to eat, I know it's a pain to keep injecting and not eating what you want. But try to incorporate it into your meal 🙂

Yes Hobie - that IS a relief, isn't it? Oooh - I think I fancy an apple, etc.

Before it was sort-of a game - I might look at something I quite fancied, but I'd only treat myself to a packet or bag of whatever, if a portion was under 10g which is what I allowed myself a maximum of, unless I was feeling very piggy in which case it WOULD be worth jabbing! LOL

Kaylz - though in theory we can just pile it high and jab for it - actually I can't do it with anything and everything. Some foodstuffs I still have to limit in order to be able to correctly and successfully dose for - although most of these are boring like spuds bread pasta and rice - I'd never want to eat any of them if it wasn't for what's with them and by limiting the stodge it means I can actually have a bit more of the nice stuff !

However if it was something really worth eating like a big dish of trifle - or fresh cream anything else - I'd make an exception! LOL (and sort my BG out after - good job trifle only happens once a year these days, innit!)

When something really nice is in fact low carb, my way of describing it is that's it's good value. So eg a fresh cream choc éclair at 11g, is good value - and S/F jelly and cream is an absolute blooming BARGAIN!

Yep, pretty much you can eat what you like as long as its covered with insulin...

I personally eat too much and so I am overweight, this makes control more difficult but not impossible.....

Certainly for the festive period its is perfectly acceptable to loosen the reign a bit...

We deserve to let loose too eh haha I've been strict on myself for the 5 weeks I've been diagnosed so my DSN gave me a tellinhg off for that even about alcohol I've not had more than 1 can but he's told me not to be scared go out have a few have a bit of toast (without insulin) and have a good time, still nerous to though haha x

OK I'll keep the trifle for myself (if only, Pete loves it even more than me) - but only SHARE a wedge of lemon curd or choc fresh cream roulade with you!

That's daring - Toast without insulin. Good grief - if you are gonna be naughty, FFS have something REALLY worth being NAUGHTY for - not boring flippin toast!

ohh the roulade sounds like a plan and haha yeah something to do with sugars could go down cause of alcohol so have a carby snack before bed but true toast is a bit boring haha x

That's true, my DSN told me that for every unit of alcohol you drink, your liver spends an hour dealing with it, and during that time it's too busy to pump out any glucose, so having extra carb before you go to bed can stave off a hypo.

Is your DSN really that boring? Does she not think we should harbour eg really nice sweet biscuits in our kitchens just because one of us has D? Mine have always been a lot more realistic !

My original dsn told us on our dafne course that if we were going out for a night of drinking we should stop by the kebab shop on the way back for a kebab to stop us dropping in the night - that was the day I decided I really liked her 🙂

My failing is fresh fruit. I have to control myself there, I can graze on a whole bag of oranges in day if I'm in the mood. Or pears. Drool.

True, we can eat anything. When I reached 15 stone I reflected that maybe that approach wasn't suitable for me though. I am a compulsive over-eater though. I now keep carbs a lot lower and treats are just that: occasional. I am back at fighting weight and this time have not relaxed my rules to see if this time I can keep the weight off.

That is the beauty of MDI that you can eat what you want (within reason), carb count it and Bolus for it. When I was first diagnosed insulin didn't have that flexibility until I was about 25.
