Type 1.5 LADA
I was at my hospital check up yesterday my HbA1c was up from 42 to 54 but apparently still in target. After spending the first 4 months on reducing Glimipirde I stopped all medication and have spent the last 5 month on just diet control. This resulted in losing 3.6 Kg in 9 Weeks. My readings have been climbing slowly with morning readings around 8 and evening readings around 15.

After a bit of a discussion they finally agreed to put me on insulin and provided pens.
Then the surprise, they said I had to get the Insulin from my GP after they send a letter to tell them to prescribe it. So with the wait for the letter then 3-4 day to get the prescription I estimate it could be 10 - 14 days before I see any !!! Could be worse I could be Diabetic !!!
Has anyone else come across this before IE is it normal to suggest starting insulin & then not give it out ???

I’m not sure that’s very usual, though it is clear that GP services are quite stretched all over.

Usually when I’ve had notifications from hospital clinic to GPs to authorise a new insulin or whatever, it has taken a little while to get the stuff in my hands.

for starting on insulin, I’m a bit surprised they didn’t give you a prescription for the hospital pharmacy to get you going.

I think when I started insulin, the hospital DSN faxed over the requirements to my GP surgery and a prescription was issued from there to my local pharmacy, I think it only took a day.
