Well - I think - fingers crossed - I've got the breakfast and the day's main meal sussed when it comes to controlled carbing.

It's the other one (lunch or tea, depending on whether the main meal is eaten in the early afternoon or in the evening) I struggle with.

Has anyone got any ideas that don't include - or at least minimise the amount of - the thus far ever-present salad?

What DO you folk eat for that third meal?

It is hard, to low/no carb all day I find, there are a couple of folk who do though, I think Dodger and Insulin Addict are the main two. I think if I'm doing that then 2 meals low is better than none? Getting into bacon and egg for breaky at the mo, and enjoy a salad with meat/fish whenever I can, then main meal is whatever if it's carb heavy I eat more of the low carb portion!

Good luck on your quest

I don't tend to low carb unless I'm basal testing for example but when I do it would usually be something egg based, a stir fry of some description or I like to make a lasagne type dish but replace with pasta with aubergene, courguette or some other veg that can be cut into slices.

what about some home made soup, you know what has gone into it then. I like to cook veg, chicken and puree it then add some gravy to make a low carb soup.

Mince/quorn with veg is somethign I've made to take to eat at work was very nice.

Ooo soup. I used to boil butternut squash and grill a rasher of smoked bacon and then liquidise the lot. It was delicious. Need to do it again. You could leave out the bacon if veggie of course but it gives a zing to it.

If you are going to use bread then things like soya and linseed or multigrain are the best and don't generally leave a spike. Then you could have mushrooms on toast, egg on toast etc etc

The best diet for a diabetic person is a healthy diet which is a bit of everything. Some people find low or no carbs works for them but the recommended is a general healthy diet with carbs included.

When Jessica was on those damn awful mixed injections you have to chase the insulin so meals based around carbs were the way to go but now she just eats healthily with a bit of carb, bit of protein and veg etc.

what to eat

Hi jean i have been useing reciepes from this site yesterday i made the all in one chicken stew was a bit dubious at first as ive never shredded a savoy cabbage into stew before but it was delicious i have also started makeing everything from scratch as then i know what im eating i do not work so have the time which i know not everyone has .i also have the whole family eating the same as me which they are also enjoying.i also make a lot of stir fries hope this helps lynne x

Home made vegetable soup does it for me. I sling in any vegetables I have floating round and use something like an oxo cube. When it is cooked I liquidise it. Sometimes I use a slice of tomato to garnish. I then follow it with some fruit if I am still hungry but don't want too many carbs.

Any soup left over I put into portion sized containers and freeze for another time.
