Yes, it was the same for me, although thankfully, I was not as ill as you Northerner. Did have some ups and downs during the first year, but I was thinking the other day - I was getting obsessed with my health because I didn't know what was wrong, had turned 50 and thought 'it's all down hill now'. Now I am still a bit obsessed, but in a much more positive way, feeling fitter and better and thinking 'to hell with 50+ I can do anything if I really want to - look at all those 60+ marathon runners!

Beards - doh! I'm always dropping myself in it for the gags!:D

By the way haven't seen any of your poetry, but sounds good.

I was 49 and had had my first tooth taken out that year, plus started needing glasses occasionally for reading, so thought it was just age. I think this is one of the big problems, particularly with type 2s, but also slow-onset type 1s, that you are at an age where everyone tells you you should expect to feel 'past your prime'. But actually, now I'm being treated, I am as fitr and healthy as when I was 35!

My poems are in the 'Off the subject' section - easiest way to find them is to click on my profile and 'Find all threads started by Northerner'.🙂

sometimes i wake up high and don't know if ive had a hypo or it's because i ate something before bed.

now im trying to lose a bit of weight so im eating less carbs and not snacking so im going to see how it goes! i did some exercise yesterday and it sent my levels to 17. i can't win, it's so annoying! Im hoping that if i stick to the not snacking thing i'll be able to work it out.

Hi Katie, perhaps your slow-acting dose needs adjusting?

If you're excercising on no carbs or insulin it will send your BS' up. I usually run after breakfast (well, walk-run! LOL) and will have a low GI one, like porridge and some fruit, then some insulin, but less than normal - this morning pre-breakfast BS was 9.1, I had 1 unit insulin, (would usually have about 3 for this breakfast and reading) Pre -run reading was 13.6, post-run was 9.2, and will probably carry on dropping for the next hour or so.

Have a look on the in sulin and exercises thread - it explains this.

Good luck with the weight loss and exercise!

Katie - if i exercise at anything above 7 my sugars end up in double figures - it also depends on the sort of exercise -for instance - high aerobic has a much different effect than low impact or weights...again - it is different for everyone - and a case of trial and error - Boo!

Thanks guys. The problem is that my blood sugars are often in the double figures 🙄 I am trying to get them down. I might have to stop having cereal for breakfast, cos' I can't seem to get the right amount of insulin for it most of the time, grr!

I would love to go for a run before work (and breakfast) to see if my sugars stay the same, rise or fall - but i dont fancy getting up at 5am! 6.30 is bad enough :D

looks like ive got lots of trial and error to look forward to.
