Hi - At my most recent review, I discussed with my consultant that I felt my control had been sliding, but that my requirement for insulin later in the day seemed to be increasing, something I hate doing given the inherent issues with weight gain etc.

We decided to give it a few months and check if tighter control brought my hba1c back into 'better' levels, but one thing we did discuss was the insulin regime I am currently on - Novorapid and Lantus.

The consultant suggested that these were ok 'in their time', but things had moved on, and that it might be an idea to try Tuojeo and Apidra - i've heard of Apidra - both good and bad - but have never heard of Tuojeo - just wondering if anyone on here has experience with these insulins, moving from say Lantus to Tuojeo etc., and how they felt, was there improvements etc.?

There's essentially no difference - Tuojeo is insulin glargine same as Lantus, but three times concentrated. To be honest, I think they've just made it because the patent is running out on Lantus. It lasts in the body for the same time as Lantus.

Apidra is a very short acting insulin- it starts working faster than Novorapid and leaves the body quicker. You might find you have to change the time you take the insulin relative to eating for that reason.

If you can get your HbA1c down using tighter control, then changing insulin in my opinion would be less useful than switching to a pump.

I was offered Toujeo to replace my current long acting insulin. I was willing to try, despite no real problems with my current regime. However, when I discovered that Toujeo was only available in disposable pens, I declined. It's a money making product for the company because patent on earlier product is due to expire soon.
