Recently dx type 2 (4 weeks) fasting 8.9, HBA1C 54, diet and exercise only for 3 months. I have cut a lot of things out totally and trying to keep carbs low. Started off ok but in the last few days have been feeling light headed at times, sometimes not long after eating. Not sure if it's a case of cutting down too much too soon? As I don't test I have no idea what my sugar levels are.

Welcome to the forum Dobbo. It's possible that your blood glucose levels are dropping, but it's very unusual to go hypoglycemic on diet and exercise alone, unless doing really extreme endurance exercise. However, testing your own blood glucose is the only way to be sure.

Hi. You may be suffering from what is known as a false hypo. This is because you body gets used to high blood sugars & when it starts coming down, your brain starts to panic. This is not pleasant but normal. It should subside after a while.

Hello, thanks for your replies. Have just been feeling a bit weird for a couple of days. Have felt lightheaded since yesterday afternoon, but also have a headache so I think it's probably just that. Such an eye opener being diagnosed isn't it, I can't believe how much sugar is in everything!

Hi Dobbo, welcome.
The best bit of advice I got when I registered with this website was to get a monitor. My Diabetic nurse did not recommend one for my situation but it's the only way you can keep on top of the effect of food on your blood glucose levels. Amazon sell the Codefree Monitor which seems to be the best value one and cheapest for replacement test strips. Stick with this forum as it's great for advice, useful information and, very importantly, encouragement.

Hi Dobbo
Warm welcome to the forum.
