Relationship to Diabetes

Good afternoon all. I'm wondering if there might be others who have similar eating problems to myself. I'm type 2 Diabetic from around nine/ten years. I suffer sometimes from excess acid, due to a sliding Hiatus Hernia. The two combined make it a little difficult to be able to find/make meals that are compatible with my problems.

I'm hoping that some of you, I mean that in the nicest possible way, might have similar problems to myself and may be able to point me in the right direction for something to eat. I also intend to search through the menu guide that I'm informed is somewhere within this forum. Muchly thankings.🙂

Has your nurse/ GP offered any advice @Janbak? Might be worth asking to be referred to a dietician. What sort of things do you enjoy eating - perhaps members could suggest alternatives 🙂

Try looking at Dukan Diet recipes. They’re mainly lower carb, low fat and use eggs and soft cheeses together with a little oat bran. I make them regularly so if there’s a particular dish you’re after let me know and I’ll see if I have any in my books.

Are you on any meds for the condition?

Had a hiatus hernia for 20 years now and take a drug called lansoprazole to keep things in check, on diagnosis was taking 30mg twice a day which was reduced to 30mg once a day, last 10 years been taking a 15mg dose first thing in the morning on a empty stomach.

Really don't avoid any foods, some meals with a higher fat content can be upsetting and tend to feel some acid the following morning.

@Janbak - my OH is non-diabetic. He has had a hiatus hernia for many years. He hasn't ever used any prescription medication to deal with it.

When I was diagnosed, his. E acting modified, like my own, to involve fewer carbohydrates. We both really trimmed up, and his reflux just went away.

Now 5 years later he has worked out that provided he keeps his weight under a certain number, he doesn't suffer.

Do you carry any weight yourself?

Good afternoon to you all. My thanks for the assistance that you all have given me, it really is appreciated. Nonethewiser, you have reminded me about the lanzoprazole in the morning. I'd forgotten about that. I'll take a look at the Dukan recipes as well, Sally W.

Also, believe it or not. Just twenty minutes ago I had a 'phone call from my surgery. I've now got an appointment on 21/02/19 at 14:30 with both a diabetes specialist nurse and a dietician. Yippee!!! So, until then, I can eat as many cakes and sweets as I like and then get it all sorted out. Or can I? Muchly thankings to you all for your help.:D
