I mentioned on another thread that I appear to have trigger thumb so am just updating progress.
I tried for a GP appt last week and got a nurse practitioner one for next wed. Meanwhile I am currently attending physio for various other problems and asked today about my thumb. I was given a support which is rather softer and more comfortable than the one I ordered online and told I can be referred for injections. However because I'm currently under addenbrookes rheumatology she felt I ought to wait until they decide what should be done. I do see where they're coming from so will persevere until my sept appt when they may hopefully have some answers and treatment options.

Oh no, frustrating for you. I hope it's not too uncomfortable in the meantime.

Thanks for updating us, Lindarose.
Sounds like things are in hand (pardon the pun), so hope September Rheumatology appointment is key to definitive treatment of your thumb.

as long as it has been looked at and help or easement is in sight things will be fine. Good you have help for the pain.

Not to sound like a numpty, but what is trigger thumb LindaRose? Is the thumb joint locked? It doesn't sound pleasant and I hope they fix it soon, just wondered if it's like contracture (the real term is a name that begins with D...contracture). My uncle had it, and my grandad and his dad too so that was clearly genetic, but they all had Ankylosing spondylitis as well and I just wondered if it's the same thing? Hope it's not too painful X

Hope they get your thumb sorted out soon.

Thankyou 🙂
Are you thinking of something called Duputrens contracture Kooky? Yes think it's a similar type of thing. My thumb is very painful and if I try to bend it it locks then releases suddenly and flicks back. Hurts to put any pressure on it too. Things like turning key in car door or picking things up really hurt. Even texting is hard! The support holds it in place so helpful. It's happened a couple of times with another finger and I feel it's all connected with a generalised joint problem but not sure yet.

I saw practice nurse today. My thumb is so bad now and she is hoping to get the GP to fit me in for an injection on Friday. Also been prescribed some diclophenic for short term pain relief. Afraid I can't swallow naproxen. They are huge! My next work shift is Friday evening and they are so short staffed i don't want to let them down.
My other job doing massage has unfortunately had to go on hold. All a worry.

I'm sorry to hear this Lindarose :( I hope that you can get some relief from the pain.

I have trigger finger and trigger thumb. Each has been injected over the years, followed by some gentle movement to get the cortisone into the right place. All VERY successful. I hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks Northerner and SB. I don't know of anyone else who's had it even though it's not rare by any means. So pleased to hear yours responded well. Could you tell me how long after injections before you could do usual things again please?

I was nice to my thumb for a day, avoiding any repetitive activity. Within two days I was kyaking.

That's brilliant! Thankyou 🙂

I'm sorry that you've got this. I hope that the injection helps.
