Hi everyone,

i have probably asked this before i was just wondering if anyone was on a high dose of the tresiba insulin i spoke with my diabetic consultant yesterday over the phone everything was good apart from my cholesterol and my blood sugars i am now on 98 units and also what time do you take your tresiba

lots of love
Kathleen

Theoretically, you can take it any time you like as long as it is at the same time for each dose. That's in an ideal punter. I don't use it, and wouldn't. That's because my basal requirements are different in the night rather than during the day, so use split dose Levemir.

Hi Kathleen,
I only take 19u of Tresiba once a day each morning. Doesn't need to be same time (a few hours either way doesn't matter with Tresiba) but it's just easier to keep in a regular routine.

I'm currently on 15U but if things continue the way they are I'll be lowering it down to 14.5U for a few days and seeing how that goes and decide where to go from there, I take mines just before bed so just before 10pm xx

Tresiba is designed to have a fairly flat profile which builds up over around 2 hours and then stays fairly level. It is also intended to last longer than 24 hours with a long slow fade (half life of 25 hours), so that consecutive doses sort of blend into each other and precise dose timings should be a bit more relaxed (it won’t be running out at the end of each day).

Of course this does mean that it’s not very responsive to change, and you can’t vary your basal through the day if you need different amounts at different times - eg if you need less at night and more during the day.
