Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hi
I have recently been told I am Type2 moving to Type1(LADA I believe).
I feel that I eat healthy(ish)...only major food change was Brown rice & pasta.
However I do enjoy 2-3 biscuits with my cup of tea before bed...having read a few bits on the internet...seems like I should be only having these as a treat...can anyone suggest a better snack to have with my Tea?
Thanks
David

I've been getting gluten free biscuits made by Gullion. These are half the carbs of standard biscuits & l find l can tolerate 2 or 3 of these. The one's I've been getting a similar to rich tea, but smaller.

Sounds good...just checked them out on Amazon...get great reviews...will probably give them a go.

Hi David, welcome to the group.....

I don't tend to snack (never have) but if I'm hungry then some cheese is a go-to for me, or I often have a tub of bacon bits in my refrigerator for salad toppings.....

Cheese doesnt dunk very well though 😛

I share a nutty protein bar with my hubbie. Less than 5 grams of carb for half in the Nature Valley ones and they're gorgeous and nutty/gooey. Bit heavy on the calories but not too bad for half and that's usually enough.

Probably wrong, but a couple of Carrot batons or slivers of cucumber with a bit of Red Pepper Humous, or a small handful of Almonds and Cashews from Lidl.

Might be wrong but better than a fist full of Pringles, crisps, salted peanuts or kit Kats ..... My previous 'nibble'!!!

I've just read the stats in your signature and they're impressive. Well done bonnie lad. Just keep doing what you're doing 🙂🙂🙂

What about something Like an Atkins Advantage bar they are low in carbs, but also the calories are not excessive and they include protein and fibre.

Bless ya @Marsbartoastie many thanks .... I haven't (and still don't) find it easy.
Your results are more so impressive. I'm not a dedicated 'LCHFer' - just more carb conscious than I was and nor am I a 'finger pricker'. I would like to drop another couple of hba1c points to put me below the pre-diabetic zone. Just so I can say my figure is 'normal' (even though I fully realise I will never be properly 'normal' again!)

The weight loss is great though!!! - my eldest son is a bit p******d off cos I can now get into his 34' waist trousers, and loving the 'Phys'

Thanks again

I'm greedy where food it concerned...so the dietary control is never going to be easy for me either. I tested my blood religiously for 6 months in order to work out which foods (and what portion sizes) I could tolerate. I don't do the finger pricking any more because I now have a good mental map of what constitutes the best diet for me.

It's good to see weight loss, but I'm just happy to have my BG under control. I never knew my maternal grandfather, but I found out recently that he had diabetes, lost his sight and had both legs amputated. That's a sobering lesson and will help to keep me on track. Sorry...that's a bit of a downer, but it's worth remembering why we're denying ourselves little 'treats'.

I think your example of why we are trying to be good for ourselves Marsbartoastie is very true. We need to be reminded sometimes or we can get carried away. Thank you
