I went to a charity lunch last week, that was organised by a diabetic. The sweet was treacle tart! Apparently there was an alternative, thinking of diabetics... fruit salad😱.

The diabetic organiser didn't realise that fruit salad is just as bad😱😱

What chance do we stand of the general populace understanding our problems?🙄

In answer to your question - very little Susan - very little indeed.

That IS precisely WHY - each of us MUST help OURSELVES.

If we want to live long and prosper, anyway .........

My last university placement was with community mental health nurses. Now, even though they're mental health nurses and not general nurses, they obviously have a lot of general nursing knowledge especially regarding wounds, diet etc (as it all affects mental health!) They knew about my diabetes as I was open about it with them. If I EVER put anything sweet near my mouth, I got the "should you be eating that?" lecture but none of them seemed to realise that carbs were just as bad.

So it seems the general public, health professionals and even other diabetics aren't aware of what "being diabetic" entails!
