Hi everyone
I'm going to be travelling to New York and Canada next year for 2 weeks. What is the best case to buy to keep my insulin in I envisage needing to take 3 humilin pens. Anyone have any recommendations please?
Thanks

It's so much better to use disposable cartridges in reuseable pens. Then you'll have less bulk to carry, cartridges take less room in your fridge than pens and there's less waste. As you're travelling next year, you have plenty of time to use up your current supply and ask to change prescription. Do you mean Humalin insulin - there are several types eg Humalin I? If so, Luxura metal pens take Humalin 3ml cartridges, as well as Humalog, in case you ever need a short acting insulin.
Cartridges fit easily into a 0.5litre stainless steel vacuum flask - you may already own one? When passing through airport security, flask needs to be empty, but at all other times, fill with cool water, ideally from a fridge. A flask gives far better protection against knocks and vibration, as well as extremes of temperature, as well as being far cheaper, than gel filled pouches.

Thanks for your reply Copepod.
I never knew that there was a different system than using the humilin I disposable pen - just had a look round and seen the Savvio Pen. I wonder if the dr will prescribe it? I will have to check. Thanks again

I have a couple of frio coolers. During the very hot weather we had here last week I used them and they lasted several days of keeping cool inside before having to soak again. They are a bit expensive but they last for years. There are several sizes.

You can but ask. It really annoys me that prescribers don't inform people about options. I've been using 3 HumaPen Luxura pens for well over 5 years now, so the financial costs of suppling reuse pens are neglible, and environmental costs of manufacture / disposal / recycling are lower - glass cartridges can be put in glass recycling bins.

I use a humapen savvio for my humulin I injections
