At risk of diabetes
Just wondered how people get on with going through the customs check with your diabetes kit what are the procedures ??, my friend had a *blue bag* for his colostomy kit and this alerted staff that it was a medical bag and this was not searched, has anyone else heard of this
Thanks for reading

I don’t think coming in through customs ever comes into the equation. With regards to security on your way out, it depends on what sort of kit you've got. Insulin pens and spare cartridges just go in the clear plastic bag for liquids, and I carry a doctors letter saying I need it. (not that I've ever had to produce it, nobody has ever queried my stuff) People with insulin pumps have a harder time, as their pumps can’t go through the scanners and need to be swabbed separately.

They ask at check-in if we're carrying 'sharps' in my luggage to which I answer Yes, and add because I have T1 diabetes. As Robin says we are told to carry a doctor's letter - my last one was so old and dog eared from going round the world I chucked it away.

Never had any problems. They've seen it all before.

If you are concerned and want to alert staff to be a little more sensitive, you can pick up a sunflower lanyard in most airports now that alerts security and other staff to an ‘invisible disability’

Is there anything in particular you are concerned about taking through? Am I right in assuming you aren’t on injections of any kind?
