Hi All 🙂

I'm booking travel insurance for my honeymoon to the US in October. One of the medical questions for diabetes is do you have Retinal (eye) damage. Is background retinopathy retinal damage?

Thanks

That's a tricky one, isn't it? I suppose the answer should be yes, even though it may not have any effect on your sight. Is it just a yes/no answer? Might be worth calling the insurer and requesting clarification from them.

If in doubt it's always a good idea to ring (most of the time if you declare a condition it's best to ring and speak to an advisor directly) as if you need to use the insurance on holiday, especially if something serious happens, the insurance company gets hold of all your medical details and if anything is undeclared or wrongly declared they can use it as an excuse to void the insurance and not pay out even if the condition is unrelated to the claim (for example if you didn't declare mild asthma and then broke your leg and needed surgery to fix you could be accountable for the whole bill despite the asthma playing no part)

How on EARTH could it affect travel insurance though?

I was amused when asking the Caravan Club for a travel quote only yesterday. I have diabetes. Are you on insulin? Yes. How many jabs a day?

(Let's see, basal drips in every 3 minutes, that's 480, plus boluses and any corrections.)

Roughly 485 a day, give or take .....

Pardon ? 😱

ROFL
