Hi Everyone🙂

I've been viewing this forum daily for a number of years but this my second post!

However I now need help with travel insurance. I'm going to Canada with my boyfriend on the 8th September for 8 days. I thought that I had my travel insurance sorted as I get worldwide insurance with my bank account with a fee I pay monthly. Diabetes is covered and is listed as a 'no screen' condition.

I phoned to check and found out that my under active thyroid was also covered for no extra charge. I phoned back today as I'd forgotten to let them know that I'm also on citalapram as I suffered from depression a few years ago. Depression isn't on the 'no screen list'. Therefore I've now got pay a ?105 for a years policy (I only need 8 days!) to cover my diabetes/thyroid as you only don't pay for 'no screen' conditions if you haven't got any other medical conditions which aren't on the 'no screen' list.

Can anyone recommend a policy which is for a single trip and will cover diabetes? I'm not particularly worried about having cover for my citalapram or thyroid.

Well then Flower, as long as you dont claim for the depression you will be fine as you say you arnt particularly bothered about the citalapram, no worries.

But they now won't cover my diabetes (without an extra charge) since I've mentioned the citalapram:(

I have used Columbus, pre-screened to include my diabetes. However, I have never had to make a claim, but I paid about ?65 for a 2 week holiday in Florida last year (as a couple).

They will ask if you have been in hospital in the previous 6 months etc. Might be worth getting a quote from them, or others might know of a better company to use.

Good luck.

I use All Clear travel insurance. My Mum put me on to it as she had lots of medical conditions, they covered us both in case either of us was ill when we went abroad together.

I'm planning to do Canada next May for a holiday so I'm currently going through the various websites.

I've found the Money Saving Expert website fairly useful and pointed me to a few fairly decent quotes. ?105 isn't actually that bad considering (depending on what the excesses are) I've been seeing lots of quotes in the ?100+ region (for a family of 3 mind).

The best I've seen so far has been a company on the various comparison websites for about ?60 with an excess of ?50-?75.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Canada 🙂 (possibly my favorite country)

Thanks to everyone for their replies🙂

The best quote I've had is the AA at ?59.

Medical questions which keeping coming up are:

Have you ever been advised to take medication for high blood pressure?
Have you been advised to take medication to lower your cholesterol?

I'm not sure what to answer. I'm on Ramapril to protect my kidneys and statins as a preventative measure. My cholesterol has never been above 4.0.

I think the best approach is to be totally honest because they will always try every trick in the book to avoid paying out if you need to claim, and there is no doubt something in the small print that would invalidate everything even if something unrelated to the claim was withheld.

I have just taken out an insurance policy, for 1 week, when I go to kos in 3 weeks time. I have quite a lot of medical problems. My policy has cost me ?150 for one week. A lot of money but absolutely everything has been documented so that there can be no way they can back out if I have medical or injury problems. It is well worth it for peace of mind.

Hi

I got turned down for travel insurance as I had just had my surgery for breast cancer 2 years ago now; even though consultant happy for me to go on short break to Bruges as not flying.

Anyway I used staysure travel insurance they certainly cover diabetes & my cancer for no extra charge & hubby also has T2 & at time irregular heartbeat for our short break (long weekend) only charged us I think ?22.00 for the both of us.

Might be worth a look.

Mine is part of my debit card perk at Bank. As long as you update them about any conditions, they accept it. I don't know how this would work for anyone who was diagnosed prior to using them though.

I travel frequently and use an annual policy from All Clear. It is essential that you disclose everything about your medical conditions otherwise they could decide to refuse to pay out in the event of a claim. They need to know about anything that could be found on your doctors records. Several companies would not cover me for diabetes and high blood pressure but there were no exclusions with All Clear and I think I paid around ?150 for the annual policy.

I just use Moneysupermarket - they've got a comparison shopper that includes pre-existing conditions. I've found annual quotes for less than ?40 for a couple, and I've got T1 and hypertension.
