Hi @Bonbon - never used it, but clearly somethings not right if your BG's doing that. Been on it long?

Tell us a bit more please so we can try and properly help you!

I believe @Michael12421 is also having problems with Toujeo in this respect and has had some very nasty lows recently.

I don't think it is a commonly used insulin in the UK. Michael is in Spain.
Have you discussed the problem with your Health Care Professionals or asked for a change of basal insulin?

Hi bonbon, I’ve been on toujeo for a year now, for past few months I’ve been running high for no reason and spiking up into 20’s again for no reason

I have been on Toujeo and Humolog for 2 years recently I have found my BG will drop very suddenly and it can be LOW as the Libre will not record below 2.1, It seems to take forever to get beyond 4 roughly an hour. This happens about 4 to 5 hours after taking the Toujeo, no matter how much or how little I have done (exercise wise). I also get unexplained highs. I am beginning to think my diabetes is taking over my life. I have had it 48 years so should be used to it. I have retinopathy in my left eye and now my right eye is getting worse (constant highs and lows make retinopathy worse) so I need it to plateau more evenly. My life is a nightmare. My health professional has suggested I use Deglubec, has anyone tried it? I have researched USA and most Type 1 say Toujeo is awful and can easily go wrong for no reason. 69 percent have problems with it. The only reason I can think mine went wrong was because I had to take antibiotics for a week in August, not been right since no matter what I try.

Are you in the USA?
Sorry to hear about your retinopathy. I think the Toujeo is likely not suiting you and you should consider a different basal insulin, whether that is Degludec/Tresiba or something else will no doubt depend where in the world you are and what is available. Personally Degludec would not suit me at all because my basal needs vary between day and night and also from day to day. Split dose Levemir works great for me as I can adjust it on a day/night and day to day basis depending on how physically active I have been whereas with Degludec any adjustment in dose takes up to 3 days to stabilize and trickles out a uniform amount over a long period of time (30+hours if I remember rightly) I would hypo every night or be high every day if I used that. My Levemir dose split is 16units in the morning and anywhere from 2-8 units on a night, so usually less than half the insulin needed overnight than I do through the day.... but that is just me and many people find Tresiba/Degludec works really well for them, particularly if they have a set routine of activity (or even inactivity) to their days.

My Levemir dosing was similar to Barbara's - ie a lot more of a morning than at night. It's a lot better suited when you have a more 'ad hoc' lifestyle doing whatever whenever, rather than a well organised one, doing much the same things every day of your life.
