Your total daily dose on pump or MDI will probably vary each day, depending on what you eat and need to cover for, so I usually would give a range e.g. currently my TDD ranges from 16-20 units currently 🙂 (20 is the most I've needed over the past week or so, and 16 the lowest 🙂)
Thanks for the replies. I also emailed my community DSN
It is an average of a typical day, looking at the days you sent yours would work out to be ~ 40 units a day
14/9/2017
Basal: 8iu
Breakfast: 5iu
Lunch: forgot to do bolus!!
Dinner: 10.5iu mealtime with correction included
Supper: 6iu
Basal: 8iu
TDD: 37.5iu
13/9/2017
Basal: 8iu + 1.5iu correction & was more than 4 hours since last bolus
Breakfast: 3.5 iu
Lunch: 7.5 iu
Dinner: 2.5 iu
Supper: 10iu including correction & more than 4 hours since last bolus
Basal: 8iu
Thanks @Pumper_Sue for reminding me & sorry for repeating my question.
The thing which is confusing me is that some people work their average out from the previous 3/4 days like I did when I sent them to my community DSN & some people just do it from the previous day ~ why & which is best? Also what do I do if the previous 3 days are hugely varied?
Depends what each person has been told to do by whoever wants them to do it, Gill !
Generally the average method is the best - I mean if you take X units every single day of your life - on an insulin regime which includes carb counting and dose adjustment - then it's highly unlikely you would need exactly the same every single day, isn't it?
