Hi guys, are any of the above ok to eat as a substitute for bread & rice etc. There are a few types of sandwich wraps on the market also, what are those like? Thanks

Not sure about Chapatti s and tortillas but most flat breads are quite high carb, so are bagels and wraps.

Personally I just eat Burgen Soya and Linseed bread. Some of the wheat flour is replaced with soya flour, so the slices are lower carb than normal bread, plus it contains seeds which slow the digestion and have less impact on blood sugar levels.

Quite a few members have mentioned good experiences with Lidl protein rolls - filling and low cab. There also seems to be a fashion for 'protein' breads currently and it tends to be lower carb. I used to like pitta bread, but discovered they send my levels sky high. Haven't tried tortillas or chapatis, the thing to do is to try them and use a blood glucose meter to test before and an hour or two after eating in order to find out how well (or otherwise!) you tolerate them 🙂

Trouble with flatbreads seems to be, they have all the ingredients of an equivalent slice of bread that's 4 times the size, so though you might fool yourself into thinking you're eating less, you're just not eating the extra air in leavened bread.

I have found BE FREE Sweet Potato Wraps or Multi Seed Wraps good and only about 13 carbs. Can be heated on a dry pan and crisped up to use like tortillas as well

There are some very nice low carb pittas and tortillas on the Low Carb Megastore site. Pitta with 4g net each and tortillas with 3g. I tend to buy in bulk and freeze them, interleaved with greaseproof paper otherwise you have to thaw out the whole pack when you just want one!
I use the tortillas as pizza bases for a quick low carb pizza when my other half is ordering dominoes!
Be careful to check the packs when they arrive as I did receive a batch once that were mouldy. They were very good about replacing them though.

I make my own flatbreads. Mix equal quantities of flour and natural yogurt season, shape and dry fry. You could experiment with any type of flour - my preferred is strong wholewheat. They are a healthy option and work for me. They are also delicious topped with warm tomatoes and garlic! Obviously everyone is different so I guess you would have to try and test. Katie

My wife makes chipattis using half chipatti flour & half rye flour. I find these quite good & no serious spike.
