Hi Everyone, I was in a bit of a panic this morning, not sure why but I have been feeling like this a lot the last few days. I took my night time levemir dose this morning instead of my morning dose, so basically I took 32 units instead of 11.

I spoke to a on call doctor this morning who just said I would be fine and to watch out for hypos (OBVIOUSLY) and not to take any Levemir before bed. I am worried though that if I don't take any levemir before bed I will wake up really really high (in the high 20s). I have also left a message on my DSNs answer phone but I haven't heard back yet.

I guess I am more worried about the night time than anything else. But I seem to be very sensitive to the Levemir during the day - on 12 units I am eating a lot to stop hypos but on 11 units I don't need to snack, so I am also worried about having very bad hypos today regardless of what I eat. Does anyone have any ideas? I feel so stupid, and all because I was panicing about nothing!

You're doing the right thing asking oncall doctor and DSN for advice. I am taking a guess her, but I think they will say that if you take any levemir tonight, you will have more than your usual daily total of units. Just be sure to take the right amount tomorrow morning and tomorrow night. You might also need to reduce your bolus insulin doses during today.

Be prepared to eat lots of grub today.................as it sounds as if you may go hypo.....

Being safe over night is important and because you have all that Levemir in you now it will last much longer than usual.....................personally i would chop my PM dose down at night in this case but I am confident with dose changes. Be safe.....................🙂

Not sure what to advise about your evening Levemir given the Doctor's advice. Larger doses do tend to last longer, so it might be worth bearing that in mind (and just running high overnight if anything to avoid risk of overnight hypo).

This graph *might* help you get an idea of the duration/peakiness of your larger Levemir dose this morning (but measure it against your own knowledge of how your body usually behaves, and your Drs advice):

My only other idea is to take my morning 11 units tonight so that I would have the same daily total as usual? So I would normally have 11 (am) and 32 (pm) but today do 32 (am) and 11 (pm), or is that a bit risky?

you obviously need less at night, so that 11 will be adding on to whatever is left from the AM dose..........just keep testing all day, try and avoid hypos and maybe compensate any evening highs with some quick acting insulin.....

Natalie, if it were me personally I would not complicate it by switching around my doses from AM to PM. I would, again this is me personally, not take any this morning, and maybe reduce what I took tonight (would depend on what my levels had been like through the day) - but go back to normal tomorrow. Else you'll be forever chasing your tail trying to get things back right again!

Might be worth just dealing with the highs and lows today and going back to your normal doses ASAP.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Strangely I haven't noticed that I am paricularly lower than usual, makes me wonder what is going on ...

Natalie hope you dont have too many ill effects through the rest of the day x
