Toe nails!

I can't remember who, but someone posted recently about having to have some toe nail clippings sent away.

I responded that i had seen a podiatrist and too had had to have mine sent away with suspected fungal infection - although I was told that 99% come back normal. I said I would update when I got the results.

I got a call Friday night from the GP and mine have come back positive which now means I have to take a course of tablets called lamisil (I think) for a whole year apparently!! They also have to watch my liver closely due to my past liver problems.

When will all this medication end!!:(

Why do I have to take the tablets for so long:(
 
I hope the tablets work. Some take longer. I'm not sure why they take so long to work, just a precaution I think to make sure the fungal infection clears.
 
Just a quick one lucy cos I am on my phone... Fungal infections are much more hardy/resilient than either bacterial or viral infections it is something to do with cell composition (can't remember what exactly) anyway good luck hubby had to paint anti-fungal nail varnish on his toes for 18months! 😱
 
Yup, PITA ain't it? but whatever you do don't stop taking them if you think they look better - the funus will just be sitting there waiting to attack again and it will keep on happening again and again unless you kill it completely.
 
The other thing with fungal toe nail infections is that you can get reinfected from your footwear. I don't know if there is anything you can buy to treat the shoes.

It takes a year of medication, because toe nails take up to a year to completely replace themselves. Like most people who do mountain marathons, I've lost many big toe nails over the years, however carefully I lace my shoes to prevent toes bashing end of shoes. Then spent a year regrowing replacement(s).
 
Hi Lucy I'm so sorry that you've got to take more tablets. I hope that they work and don't cause problems. Life will get better.

Hi Lucy I have been taking those tablets amd they worked. I now have lovely toe nails cant wait to go and treat myself to a pedicure. I took the tablets for about 9 months until my new nails had grown all the way through. I had to go for a blood test each month to check my liver but everything was fine.

Did you have no nails at one stage - or very thick nails? I can't imagine having lovely nails again - thats postive anyway.🙂
 
My nails were thick and horrible. My big nail had fallen off in the past. I can now wear lovely sandals.
