I had to go to my gp this morning for annual diabetes check, I go to consultant twice a year. At the end of last week my big toe, on my left foot, was a bit sore. Over the weekend it got worse and really yucky round the bottom of the nail, I was really pleased that I had an appointment already. Dr sais it is badly infected and gave me strong antibiotics and antibiotic creme. I am really worried about it as this toe has been infected before. I am so frightened that it won't heal and go bad. I think we all know the outcome of that. I am totally stressing out over it. PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN.

Very sorry to hear this Spirit :( The good news is that it has been caught early, so hopefully the antibiotics will put things right for you soon. Don't hesitate to go back if there doesn't appear to be any improvement, but I really hope there is {{{HUGS}}} for you and hoping you heal quickly.

I hope this helps a bit. My daughter went through a long spell of an infected big toe. It got so bad she had a partial nail removal. Painful but effective. So don't stress, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in (excuse the pun :D) give the cream and pills time to work

As well as prescribing oral antibiotic tablets and antibiotic cream, did doctor advise about hygiene eg washing foot at least daily, perhaps including daily soak in hot salty water? If at the end of completed course of tablets, infection hasn't improved considerably, go back, as a different antibiotic may be replied to deal with relevant bug, which will only be known if a swab was taken.

Sounds like infection was picked up early. Worth asking if there's a red foot emergency scheme in your area, in case you ever have a future issue.

Try not to worry, the antibiotics will help, try and wear open toes where possible to dry it out and get well soon

Thank you for all of your helpful advice. I always wash, and carefully dry, my feet every day. I have started to soak the foot in salt water for a few minutes a day. It is very sore, even putting the creme on is painful. I am putting the creme on a plaster and then putting it onto the toe. Gp knows how I am applying it and says that it is ok to do that. Northerner, thank you for the hugs, I really need them at the moment. I'll keep you informed.

Sounds painful, I hope your toe is feeling better! ....by the way your inbox is full, you need to delete some messages to free some space! 😉

How's the toe doing now, spiritfree?

Hello Northerner. The infected toe is still quite nasty. I finish my antibiotics tomorrow and I will keep using the antibiotic creme, until I go back to see gp on Feb 9th. I am feally fed up with it all.

Do you think it is worse than before? I'd be tempted to go back sooner if there has been no improvement, and maybe ask to see a podiatrist. I really hope that things improve for you soon spiritfree {{{HUGS}}}

I hope that the toe is much better now spiritfree, good luck at the doctor's tomorrow. If you are still worried then don't leave the appointment without getting a satisfactory answer to any of your questions!
