I have searched about regarding having a small glass of red wine and there seems as always to be conflicting advice.

Some say its too heavy in calories yet others say it helps to stabilise BG.

Haven't had a tipple since I joined the club, wonder what you guys do.🙂

I think the main thing to watch out for is if you are on any medication (not necessarily diabetes-related) that might interact badly with it. The other thing would be whether you can stop at one small glass 😉 I think there is research that indicates it can be good for your health for various reasons, foe example:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/a...-red-wine-protect-heart-disease-diabetes.html

However, also read this for the 'truth' behind the stories:

🙂

Treat yourself, 1 glass won't hurt, just make sure it's a good red.

A 120ml glass of red wine has 80 calories, I have the occasional glass of wine which has no effect on my blood glucose levels. Try not to overindulge🙂

As said, it probably won't affect your BGs at all and shouldn't be a health issue at that level unless you have other underlying problems.

The research in the papers was what first made me think but it looks a rather suspect conclusion, so reckon its test test and test time with the meter.:D

I actually cant drink more than a half glass of red anyway, but I did enjoy it with some cheese and biscuits, and a half glass would only be 40 calories, so thats good.

I tend to have a glass of red on weekend nights - my treat 🙂

Check what your medications say (one of mine says not to be taken with alcohol) and enjoy a glass. I stop the one that says to avoid alcholo once in a while and enjoy a glass of something as a treat.

I'm a regular partaker in a glass (or glasses) of red.....or white! 😉 Doesn't affect my sugar levels too much 🙂

A little of what you fancy slipper. The only time I would worry is if I had high triglycerides as Dr. pointed out to me that alcohol can raise triglycerides.

Remember that few wine glasses hold just 120ml, and alcohol content varies from less than 10%, through average about 12.5%, to about 16%. So, lots of variables!

Ooh, thats something else to look up, thanks cherriepie🙂

I think I'm the biggest variable Copepod, sometimes a sip and I'm dizzy, :D

Slipper - variation of response does give a good reason for plenty of experimenting... 🙂

I find a given amount / units of alcohol has varying effects on me depending on previous exercise, sleep etc. Beer after exercise definitely suits me better than wine.
