Please help looking for tips to lower my blood sugars.ive been type 1 for about 5 years .Over Christmas my sugars have gone really high with one low .I've been correcting ,exercising a bit,not being too naughty with food.spiking a few 23.stressing me out.and the stress making me worse.any suggestions greatly appreciated

Have you had an infection? That can send numbers haywire and if you have, all you need to do is wait till it goes way. Of not though then you may need to adjust your doses. What insulin are you on and how much and when?

Oh, and welcome to the forum, I forgot that bit... Sorry.

Welcome from me too.

Indeed you could well be sickening for something - lots of nasty chest infections, coughs and colds about just now and of course we haven't had too much freezing weather to kill the bugs off, plus lots of warmer temperatures than we should be having with low clouds and wet weather - all of which cause the ruddy bugs to proliferate.

Assuming it isn't that, along with your correction doses of your short acting insulin, it is quite possible/probable that you need to change your long acting insulin too - because the amount one needs of this, does vary. Have you done a carb counting course? and did that give advice on how to test whether your basal insulin is at the correct levels for your body? If so, do it.
If not see http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/info/?page_id=120 and do that instead.

Let us know how you get on. Hope you can sort it.

Thanks for your replies. I'm feeling alot better today adjusted the background insulin morning at night and has brought them down.
Yes I do need to go on the daphne course as not good at carb counting.im a vegetarian too so find I eat alot of carbs.
Also the kids being off school could be another factor.on a mission to try and get some exercise in.
Thanks for your help.
Happy new year x
