Iv looked online and all of them say there are no carbs in Tia Maria?
Is this really true?
If so,it’s really made my day!

I find that rather hard to believe as I would have said Tia Maria is quite sweet but maybe I am mistaken. It is a very long time since had some because I personally think it tastes foul. Give me a rum and diet coke or or G and slimline T any day. :D

I've looked at a few other sites and I have found some saying 10g carbs in a 30ml serving which is about what I would expect whereas others say zero. I do wonder if the ones that say 0 are taking their info from the fact that there is no carb content displayed on the bottle. It contains sugar in the ingredients so it must contain some carbs.

Maybe just reserve it as treat for special occasions like birthdays, weddings, Christmas etc if you really like it, rather than a more regular feature on your menu. At 10g per shot it is less than an apple so not a huge amount..... but not as healthy obviously 🙄

I found this:
What ingredients are in Tia Maria?

Tia Maria is a coffee liqueur invented in Jamaica in the 1940's, made with Arabica coffee, Jamaican rum, bourbon vanilla and sugar.

It contains sugar, so there are the carbs. I won't say no to a wee Tia Maria (even better in black coffee with cream on top) 😱, not keen on coke myself but like Pepsi Max if it is available, though I'm mainly a vodka person on the odd night out. Just have one as a treat on high days and holidays, as they say. just work it in as part of your daily carb intake 🙂

If you like it, why not try it and find out what affect it has on you
Some times our body's reaction is not what we expect based on the carb content.

So, take a reading, drink a snifter of tia maria and test your levels 2 hours later.
It's all for science and your health 😎

Alcoholic drinks don’t have to list nutritional info. I tend to judge by the amount of sugar v. alcohol. Eg I drink absinthe which is high alcohol so I can have it with the requisite sugar cube(s) with no effect on my blood sugar. Many liqueurs like Tia Maria are sweet yet not that alcoholic. I find that unless I have a tiny serving I need to be aware of the carbs.

So, try a small Tia Maria and see how you go, but ideally you’d be ‘safer’ with gin, vodka, dry wine, etc carb-wise.

Thank you @Inka .
The carbs thing is sooooo complicated .
I need to get a book to help me.
My 1st apt with Diabetes Nurse I was told No carbs at all. Iv never read labels on food, ever!
So it’s a big shock at the moment.

That is ridiculous!
Is there any print offs on here with carbs numbers @Inka?
Like a list?
Carbs and Cals or the various apps or shop websites are a good guide but depending on the manufacturer or specific variety the carbs can be very different.
Making your own list of the foods you have most frequently with their total carbs would be time well spent.

No, but some people use the Carbs and Cals book/app, others the Collins Gem Carb counter book. If you’re just trying to avoid most carbs, focus on meat, fish, eggs plus green veg. Those are all zero or very low carbs. Plain Greek yoghurt plus a few berries is low in carbs too.

Dropping the regular Pepsi will be a big help too. High sugar, quickly absorbed - basically the worst thing you could have. Try diet drinks, sparkling water, etc.

Some Type 2s might have their own lists they’ve written.

Or some of us just carry most of it around in our head. It's funny or maybe a bit sad how many carb values we can rhyme off for our favourite foods!
