To educate others you need to be educated yourself. I have type 2 diabetes, grew up with a father who now has severe complications in relation to his type 2 diabetes and still I am ignorant to diabetes 😱. Its the lack of support I find embaracing as I cant even answer the basic of questions I get asked by friends and family other than to say "I assume its ..." or "good point I will have to look it up and get back to you on that" . Let alone understand it myself!

Excuse me for being ignorant but I am not educated in diabetes I just 'suffer' from in in more ways than one! :(

Thanks 🙂

I'm not being rude but you say your father has complications from Diabetes , Why dont you educate yourself then ????? If you want to avoid the same problems later on with your own health. We have to take control of our own lives and Diabetes is just a small part of that for me , I will not let it rule me. Educate yourself , then you can answer the questions for yourself and maybe for a few other people on the way.

😱 No offence taken.

I am trying to educate myself its a scary prospect to think there is a strong chance I could develope such complications myself. Especialy considering I have so far followed his footsteps with other health matters being 'inherited'.

Trouble is no one has the time to stop and explain these things, my Mother and Brother are struggling to cope and as I was just a child they didnt think I needed to know back then obviously. Now they still have enought to cope with and my mother is learning all she can bit by bit and its information overload, very little time for 'doctors etc' to stop and explain and spend time until my mum understands it all one topic at a time. They have no support either other than that when my dad is in hospital.

My fathers symptoms and conditions are different to mine so learning about them would be useful but possibly irrelevant to me right now. Im not saying it will be a waste of time to educate myself, of course not! I just feel I need the support and advice relevant to me here and now so I can educate myself and deal with my own health problems before I can move on to potential future ones

I am trying to educate myself but with such lack of support I am finding it hard. So far what I have found out about my own life I have learnt from this forum! I therefore still have a long journey. I have no friends or family around me who have diabetes and a lot of them are ignorant to it so my only support at present is here from everyone (thank you very much) and of course if I have any bad health my doctor. Other than that support is non existant and what I know is self taught but im still confused. We all have to start somewhere and I am new to type 2, well from the 'I have it' angle anyway.

Thanks 🙂
