i was found to have a resistant bacteria UTI but the problem it only responds to certain antibiotics and sods law it has to be penicillin which i am allergic to so a technique they are using is to run anti-histamine along side the antibiotic so they can get it in to my system.

it is only a 7 day course but wow does it make a mess of my throat and sinus but nearly there now. never been through this sort of treatment before.

after the course is finished i did another post where they are checking the urine again.

as i have become resistant to certain antibiotics i welcome any input. the strange thing this has never happened in 12 years of using catheters and why did it happen, it is not like i am taking UTI antibiotics regular.

over the years i have seen news articles about this sort of stuff happening but never thought it would happen to me.

Sorry Mikey no experience of this.
Just giving you a virtual hug.

I had a real struggle with antibiotics after about a decade of increasing difficulty - I took only half a dose of antibiotics as a teenager as my dad never went back to get the ones not available.
I was given one lot of tablets after another as I became more and more unwell. Eventually the doctor was calling in on his way into and out of work each day - there was a 'flu' epidemic going on and if I had needed to go into hospital he thought I might very well die.
What fixed it was a new antibiotic, he got hold of a sample and rushed around to try it on me - I was better in three days - but took every tablet in the course. I can still remember how ill I felt and how wonderful it was when I woke up the nest day and took the third tablet thinking that I was going to get better after all - I had seen my grandmother deteriorate and die so I was under no illusion as to just how ill I was and what the consequences might be.
I do hope that you have a similar recovery. Once I got that antibiotic I never had a similar infection again.

Hi Mikey, do you have symptoms.

If you have a long term catheter your dips will always be 'positive' and your catheter urine specimen will always be positive too. They don't have immune systems and biofilms build up on them within hours. If there aren't symptoms then antibiotics shouldn't be given, the bugs will just get further resistances.

If it's a true symptomatic infection then it ought to be treated, the catheter could also be changed.

Unfortunately it becomes rather a vicious circle, as being unwell can push up blood sugar levels and bacterial and yeast infections like nothing more than all those nice sugars to enable them to grow and they become harder to get rid of. Lots of antibiotics are broad spectrum so will not only get rid of the bacteria causing the problem but all the 'good' bacteria that you need to allow your digestive system to work and protect the body. We always said bacteria are only bad when they get in the wrong place.

i did a post on here ages ago that after a flu jab this was last year i fell unwell and it was affecting my BG levels sending them to very high levels then in to hypo sugar was then found in quite a few urine samples along with other stuff.

over the last year though i have had very little in the way of any UTI treatment but one thing i kept noticing my drainage bags were staining blue and even just early this year i started getting the same staining again. doctors and district nurses have given me only mixed comments though.

i had a recent catheter change and a urine sample was taken and sent off that then revealed this UTI bacteria bug which was found to be resistant to certain antibiotics.
