This heredity thing

Hello,

There are 5 of us with diabetes in my family. Myself and my brother developed Type 1 at around 18 years old.

And three of my cousins (again all brothers and sisters) are all Type 1. Both girls were from birth and the boy in the middle was about 18.

No other history of diabetes in my family that I know about.

I definitely believe there is some genetic link, but also accept that there may be something else that has to happen that triggers it.

Diabetes is a major cause of vascular complications and I read recently that most diabetics die of heart attack or kidney problems :(
