Think Vaping is A Safer Option?

I find it odd that a diabetes forum who has members frequently discussing high carb food designed to be addictive has this thread with no sympathy towards those with a different addiction.
Couldn’t agree more !
I’ve benefitted greatly from this forum, had wonderful advice and empathy regards my weight, diet and food choices. So much so I achieved remission from Type 2 in 3 months and 12 months on still going strong.
If I were to post that I’m struggling and craving say burger and chips, I’ve no doubt the members would sympathise and give great support.

I can be overweight, addicted to lots of unhealthy foods but god help me if I vape.
This thread has sadly dented my faith in this forum.
As a nicotine addict that smoked for 35 years, tried endlessly to quit, patches, cold turkey, gums, lozenges and even hypnotherapy the only thing that helped me quit was vaping. 6 years later I still vape. I’m acutely aware of what I am vaping as I make my own juice. My nicotine level is very low but keeps me away from the evil tobacco.
Should also add that it’s non carcinogenic.
Whilst I agree the unregulated disposable vape craze is desperately in need of some govt attention, I despair at the current attitude that I’m a disgusting person for vaping.

Much like Diabetes, lots of utter tripe is reported about the health aspect of vaping and decent research is always key.

Example - the contrast between the title of this thread - 'Think Vaping is A Safer Option?' with a link to a paper which, in the conclusion, says that yes, it very likely is a safer option than smoking.

I've used vaping to get off cigarettes and, so far, I haven't bought tobacco in seven years. I'm not saying vaping is fine and healthy because it almost certainly isn't. For example, there was some research done on rats where the researchers tried to identify which specific elements in tobacco smoke or e-cigarette vapor might be responsible for blood vessel damage, and they couldn't find any one thing. They concluded that airway irritation may be causing inflammation and that this might be what damages blood vessels - in short, inhaling anything that makes you cough may have negative health effects. Inhaling a cocktail of nicotine, food additives and flavourings can't possibly be a healthy thing to do.

Strict regulation is absolutely needed, both to keep vapes out of the hands of children and to ensure the components of vapes and the ingredients in vape liquids are as safe as they can be. There is quite literally more regulation and scientific testing done on the ingredients of cosmetics than there is on the ingredients of e-cigarette liquids, and that really has to change. I don't agree with banning them entirely or in taxing them to the point that vaping becomes as expensive as smoking. They do have utility for helping smokers quit, in my experience and in the experience of many others, and so I believe that price and ease of access are important considerations.

Despite the occasional horror story and serious concerns about the 'wild west' situation around the stuff that goes in to e-cigarette devices and liquids I'm confident that my vape is less harmful to me than the cigarettes were. I am no longer coating the insides of my lungs with ash and tar, and that has to be a good thing. I feel the difference every morning I wake up without a smoker's cough.

Not just patients though, my Father was one time at Hospital in ICU with heart problems, later in the day i spotted the Consultant in charge at one of the hospital gates, with a crafty one so can definitely be a case of do as i say and not as i do!
Looked a bit sheepish to say the least when he saw me.

Amazing when you think he'll sees everyday what damage smoking causes.
