Hi again. Well, I just thought I’d check in with what’s happened this week. Got my testing kit last Saturday and have been getting the hang of that. My morning levels are around 7 - 7.5 so if that’s comparable to my first test at the GP of 10.4 I reckon that’s a bit of progress? Still struggling with what to have for breakfast - made the mistake of giving in to a bowl of cornflakes the other day and where I started the day at 7.3 it was double that two hours later! Won’t make that mistake again! Have tried the Hovis low carb wholemeal bread - had a cheese, coleslaw and tomato sandwich at lunch and the reading only went up half a point so pleased with that. And it’s delicious too. Gave up on the Metformin- I admire anyone that persevere with it and puts up with the side effects but I just couldn’t. The term Revenge of Montezuma came to mind the other day! Now that it’s gone my blood pressure has gone down (was doing a week of ambulatory checks at home for the nurse). Feel so much better. Spoke to the doc for a routine med review and told him and he was fine about it and said there were lots of others to try so I speak to the nurse on Friday and she will suggest something else. Slowly learning what I can have and experimenting a bit and have lost nine pounds in the process, so that’s a good start. Funny, all,the years I really tried to lose weight and now I’m not it’s dropping off! Also found Tuc crackers are only about 3 grams of carbs so a couple of those with a bit of cheese keeps me going in the evening.

Really great start Flakie. It's so useful isn't it, to be able to test and see how things affect you. Congratulations on your weight loss. 🙂

That’s a great news. It may be possible providing you are happy with your new diet and your numbers are ok to be able to do without Diabetes meds at least for a while.
It’s a well known secret amongst us here that cutting down the carbs can help with weight loss

@Flakie. Well done on your weight loss and for lowering your bgls ~ being able to finger test on a daily basis is of great help as opposed to 3 monthly HbA1c.
Take care & keep up the good work x

Thanks for your update Flakie. If you can face bacon & eggs for breakfast your numbers shouldn't elevate too much ~ and as eggs are carb free you could have scrambled eggs; boiled eggs; poached eggs etc instead of ceŕeal. x

Well done, Flakie. I found losing weight really easy with low carbing. I seem to have settled at around 75kg, which i'm happy with.
