Hmm. Sounds like doctoring the lucozade :D or a guilt trip is the only way to go - maybe a note stuck on your supplies to the effect of 'this may be just a stolen snack to you, but if I go hypo & have no food left to treat it I could end up with brain damage or dying...in which case my family will sue YOU. Ps, Smile, you're on hidden camera As*****!"

Or something similar??

I have put a note on in a similar fashion.
I've also threatened I will break people's fingers if I catch them

ha,ha.....I can just imagine what the note says! :D 😉

I wasn't allowed to put what I want but I did openly threaten anyone I caught

I can't believe people still steal your food after all that :-| I had my snacks stolen at primary school but I didn't think adults would behave in this way...you must have the misfortune of working with a right load of greedy t***s.

Oh I do & sadly they are married males who should know better!!!

I just can't get my head round it when there is a note saying please don't eat - for hypos. If eaten please replace

Hmm...maybe the 'if eaten please replace' in some thickos heads implies permission? ie it's okish?

I'd seriously be tempted to say stealing (& use that word!) hypo treatments is theft & is as bad as assault & will be treated as such - i.e reported to the police with a view to pressing charges. Maybe these utter p***** think it's all a bit of a game or a laugh but I'd say it sounds like it's gone way beyond that and would now constitue harrassment & workplace bullying (hence the earlier question about HR). Not good... 😡

Have you put your complaint in writing to HR. Verbal complaints are easy to ignore as there is no proof off them or it can become your word against someone elses.

Although no one should be taking your hypo supplies I think maybe you should change the note - as not everyone will understand what hypo is. Also I would not include the if eaten please replace as some may see that as negating the first half of the note.

Maybe change to something like Do not eat - for hypos which can be a medical emergency for a diabetic.

I have been thinking all the way through this thread that you need to put your complaint IN WRITING (as Margie says) and address it to whoever in your company deals with HR. I know in some small companies there's no dedicated department, but there is usually a person delegated to take care of such issues. In my next but last job I was that person and I would not move without consulting the agency who we paid to advise us on HR issues. Someone having a verbal whinge about a general issue might just be taken as gossip but anything in writing would be taken very seriously indeed. At my last place of employment (before retirement which I am now enjoying) there was a person in a similar position.

It's really no good complaining verbally, however indignant you feel, but please, for your sake and for any other employee's sake who might be in the same position, please put it in writing.

On a lighter note, my dear old mum was in a retirement home and she was complaining to us that the staff drank her whisky "I know, because it's going down really quickly and I only have a capful in milk before bed to help me sleep". So we filled a bottle with coloured water and salt. The level never varied... and one night we witnessed Mum's capful.... arghhh... a cap full and let it overflow whilst you count 3! Sorry, not suggesting that's your problem, the comments about adulterating the Lucozade just reminded me - though why anyone would drink Lucozade for pleasure is beyond me!

Perhaps you've got a secret diabetic working with you who needed a quick hypo fix? 😱 😉

I agree with Twitchy here, I don't think you should say 'if eaten please replace' as this does kind of give them permission to help themselves. You need to word the note stronger, make it clear that nobody except yourself should touch any of the items.

I can't believe this is happening to you at all! I find it shocking. I keep my hypo supplies on my desk and nobody I work with would dream of touching them, unless it was to help me. The guys you work with need to understand the seriousness of the situation! Complete idiots. 😡

I've complained (again) I complain everytime someone does it.

Nothing ever happens so next time I have nothing, I won't treat my hypo & they can phone for an ambulance & explain why I ended up in that state!

Phil I like your thinking

Stealing is stealing whether its in the workplace or not, tell your company if they don't want to take the theft as a serious offence then you will report the matter to the police, you could also try turning the tables on them and ask if stealing company property would get the same response from management.

Mum said about reporting it to the police but can you imagine reporting that??
I'd get laughed out of the police station.

Sadly we don't have a HR department but I'm going to raise it with 2 people in at work who are high ranking & 1 is also diabetic (but didn't take the supplies)

Has the firm done a risk assessment re: the risk of a hypo that cannot be treated immediately due to missing supplies? I suspect not, but employers owe a duy of care to their employees while at work. It might be worth mentioning this when you have your meeting with the seniors. The HSE can offer advice if needed.

Actually, it's very unlikely that they would laugh you out of the station. I'd suspect they would tell you that they don't have the resources to do anything with it.

But they might give you a case number...

I assume you do have a "HR" person. Because I was led to believe that was a mandatory requirement in the UK - I could check with my Union rep.

I say Laura, d'you happen to know anyone with legal qualifications?

Could always run it past em, you know 'If THIS happened to someone, what should she do about it?' type of thing? 😉

I'd argue that the company that you work for has a duty of care to you whilst you are on the premises. There would be legal implications if they took actions (or lack of action in this case) which could lead to harm to you.

As Pattidevans says, putting this issue in writing (if the initial verbal approaches haven't worked so far) to someone who is responsible is probably the best approach. But, the letter should be measured and specific (i.e. a rant probably would work against you!).

The problem with adulterating things (e.g. peeing in bottles and such-like) is that you leave yourself open to retaliation. It reminds me of a joke where a man in a pub was so bothered that people were drinking his pint when he went to the toilet that he left a note next to his drink saying "I have spat in this pint!". When he returned, someone else had written next to it "So have I"!!

Andy 🙂

We don't have a HR person

No risk assessment done for when I have a hypo

I'm going to speak to one of my barristers now

....ha,ha.....plenty of sugar in my urine! 😛
