I went up to our local depot this morning to collect a parcel, and decided to stop at Iceland on the way back as I'd eaten the last slice of Burgen at breakfast.

Shock! Horror!! the shelf was empty of Burgen but filled with Kingsmill and Warburton. I stopped a passing member of staff who went to check, and who regretfully came back to say they seem to have stopped stocking it....oh no :(:(:( !

Morrisons is nearby though, so I went there (it was packed!) and found it on the shelf for £1.38, and I bought two loaves. So we'll have to go there instead of Iceland in the future and pay more 😱. Still, at least I can get it, which is the main point.

Phew! At least you have a fairly convenient second supplier! 🙂 I was worried a few weeks back when the local Co-op seemed to be winding down stock - they had several days with no Burgen available - but thankfully they seem to be back to previous orders and I no longer have to stockpile. I'd have a bit of a hike over to the Sainsbury's up the hill if the Co-op let me down! 🙂 Still £1.25 in the Co-op 🙂

I know it shouldn't, but it irks me intensely to see all the rubbish bread on sale, filling 98% of the shelves! 😱 🙄

What's best about Burgen, please?

I may have to give burgen bread a try.

What's best about Burgen, please?
The Burgen Soya and Linseed variety has less carbs per slice (due to the use of some of the ordinary flour being replaced with soya flour) - around 12g. It's also got lots of seeds in it, which is good for fibre and lowering the rate at which it hits your blood sugar levels 🙂 It's also very tasty and stays moist well 🙂 As with anything though, you need to determine your own particular tolerances for it 🙂

I'd like to give the Lidl protein rolls a try as they've been recommended here, but sadly our Lidl is a small store so they don't stock them :(

I noticed our Waitrose hasn't had Burgen for the last couple of weeks, made mental note to try the local co-op next time I'm passing, which sometimes has it, and was stocking the smaller sized loaf too. Hope it's not a general problem with supply.

I like the Lidl rolls but if l have them too often l get bored of them. I have recently tried the new Hovis Sunflower & Pumpkin Seed bread which is lovely.
