Doctor has put the rise in HbA1c down to my depression as nothing else has changed.

Sorry to hear about the depression and the rise in HbA1c OH. Fantastic BP - wish mine was like that at the docs!

Did you get a split of your Cholesterol or was only a Total Chol ordered? the total looks great (under 5 would be fine for the general population), but what littel I have read on chol suggests the devil is in the detail and splits are very useful to work out what the total means.

Do you have a plan to try to reduce your HbA1c? Are you taking any meds that might be tweaked? Or could you ask for some strips to maximise the effectiveness of diet/lifestyle changes?

It was a total Cholesterol.

Doc wants to leave all medication as is. She wants to treat the depression first. The first thing she wants me to do is get rid of my car that has sat on the drive for 4 years as it's a constant reminder that I can't drive any more. Due to the Arthritis in my spine.

As for the strips, I've now joined the T2 Testing Saga. My DSN told me this morning that the practice has changed it's T2 policy to testing once a month, if necessary, more if unwell. I asked who was going to benefit from this, definitely not T2's. She tried to explain that they have T2's that panic when they get higher than normal readings. This is something I've never done but have acted when my readings rise, and keep rising. Also I buy every other box of Test Strips so I will keep testing every other day.

Sounds like getting rid of the car might be helpful.

At the risk of tutoring chicken-produce-inhalation have to ever done a short term more intensive series of tests to fine tune your diet. Along the lines of Jennifer's Advice or AlanS's Test Review Adjust? http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.co.uk/2006/10/test-review-adjust.html

Might be interesting to see where the higher levels after meals are coming from? And allows you to actively tackle them by avoiding some foods, rather than seeing them as something you 'can't do anything about without insulin' which seems to be a prevailing thought among HCPs. 🙄

Sorry to hear about the rise in HbA1c OH, but it is good to see that your other readings are good. Your nurse may well have T2s who 'panic' when they see bad numbers, but you are not one of them so it's wrong to treat you as she/the Practice would them - how difficult is that for them to understand?

I hope that you are able to emerge from the depression soon. Perhaps you should also tell them that not being able to test would mean you feel less in control and therefore add to your depression? They need to start treating the individual. I know it's harder for them, but humans are complex beings, not all given to exactly the same set of reactions.
