My large Tesco stopped selling Burgen months ago so I have had to pop to Asda to buy it. Tesco sold it for about £1.50, Asda for about £1.40 sometimes on offer for a pound. Last week Mr Eggy went to our “little” Asda ( couple of miles down the road) and there wasn’t any in, which is very strange. So on Friday we went to our “big” Asda, hooray there it was in it’s pink packeted resplendence. I was overjoyed until I saw the price. £1.74! WT blooming heck! Even at Tesco’s most expensive that’s more than a 15% price increase. What’s everyone’s else’s experience of this? Is it nation wide or just up here? And I have to use 10 motorway miles worth of petrol to buy it! Fuming! 😡

I stopped buying it and going for rye or corn bread. Mind you I pay about £1.60 for proper baked rye and corn bread.

Last time I bought in my Sainsbury's was £1-40, but the don't always have.

It was £1.25 in my local Co-op until about 3 months ago, now it's £1.50 :( That's a 5/- increase! 😱

It was £1.50 in Morrisons a while back, but none on shelves last week. I asked one of the shop assistants why there wasn't any and he told me that Morrisons don't have a huge contract with the makers so only have it in once a month which he said was a shame as it's very popular.

I did notice though that Morrisons have their own brand of soya and linseed bread in store. Not sure but think it was about 17carbs a slice.

I’ve switched brands since someone here let me know that (along with many bulk made breads) Burgen contains mono- and di-glycerides of Fatty Acids as an emulsifier, which I understand to be a trans fat (not ideal) but which diesn5 have to be leafed as a trans fat.

Asda ‘super seeded’ doesn't have that in, not does Sainsbury’s bakery granary. Not as low carb, but I’ve worked around it.

Wow, £1.74 is a bit much! I'm afraid that Burgen has gone AWOL around these parts again. However, when I visited my daughter and her baby yesterday we went to her local ginormous Asda and I picked up three loaves, oh joy! They were, I think, £1.48 each.

Our Morrisons still has the 'temporarily unavailable' sticker on their shelf, which is where we normally get it, and it's around £1.45 or £1.48. Finding it anywhere is very hit and miss :(

I've never seen a Burgen loaf. Is Hovis low carb any good? They have that in our Tesco, I might give it a whirl. I've been having 3 Ryvitas at lunchtime but not sure how much carbs with a thin spread of butter.

Depend slightly on which Ryvita, but my pack of Originals says 6.7g per slice, - so 20 for the 3.
Not sure about Hovis but most breads are around 12 to 14g per slice.

I buy Hovis Nimble, which is quite low carb though small (about 8 per slice, I think, without looking), if Burgen isn't around. I used to get a nice Hovis seeded low carb loaf too, but that has also disappeared :(

I find it perpetually irritating that the bread section of practically every supermarket (if not all of 'em) is 90% c**p white bread or imitation brown bread :( Where I used to live the Burgen was in the 'specialist breads' section, but they usually had a good supply. There is no Sainsburys where I live now.

I bought a Hovis Nimble to try yesterday but my Sainsbuy's did not have any more of it than Burgeon.

I used to love Bergen! Sadly I developed severe issues with gluten in wheat/barley/rye and have had to be scrupulously gluten free for the last 12 years. Gluten free loaves are around £3, even more for a specialist loaf :(
Needless to say I don't eat much bread these days!

This made me lol. 20 carbs for 3 Ryvitas? I had 6 in the end agh. When I used to try and do Atkins (I could never keep to it of course) we were only allowed 20 for everything! :D
