Our #TheBig1 Online – ‘ Ageing Well With Type 1 Diabetes’ event on Wednesday 11 November is your chance to meet other people living with type 1 diabetes. This event is free to attend is running 7pm until 8.30pm. You can log on from 6.50pm. Once your registration is complete, you will receive an email with the meeting link, ID and pass code.
This session will be hosted by Diabetes UK's Improving Care Manager, Matthew Robert and South West Regional Head, Phaedra Perry.

They will be joined by 2 guest speakers: A Diabetes UK Online Forum Host, Type 1 Events Volunteer and Diabetes UK Speaker Volunteer and a Bristol Diabetes Support Network Lead Volunteer, Know Your Risk Lead and Speaker Volunteer.

You’ll be able to chat with each other, learn from their experiences and share some of yours with other people who really understand life with type 1 diabetes. There’s lots of opportunity to talk about the stuff you really want to. This is part of a series of online sessions we are holding, each with a different theme such as diet, exercise, emotional well-being, drugs and alcohol, family planning, world travel, careers and work, and life in general. You can sign up in future for sessions that interest you the most

Sounds great @Josh DUK - the Big 1 events have been very good so far.

Go on... ‘fess up! I have an idea which of our lovely hosts this might be... but I will wait to see if my hunch is accurate :D :D :D

Last chance to sign up for this evening’s event, and you need to sign up to be let into the meeting.
I hope to see some of you there.

Yup, they kind of asked in such an apologetic way if I was happy to talk about ageing!

Best wishes @SB2015, and I hope you get lots of good questions.
Sorry I can't be there.

As long as you make it clear you'd rather grow old disgracefully than gracefully, I shouldn't imagine there'll be a problem ! Oh - smilies have disappeared - so LOL in that case!

Good to see you there @Flower.

Not all the publicity had gone out as planned so it was a select group this time, which worked well as there was a chance to hear from everyone, with lots of questions. A very enjoyable evening.

The next one is on healthy eating with T1 in 16 December.

Im gutted I missed it - I had meant to set a reminder in my calendar when it was mentioned in the virtual meetup on Sunday, but I completely forgot :(

There was another Big1 last night: Top Tips for Type 1

This was a more informal structure and the chat flowed through a wide range of topics, including travel, the honeymoon period, timing of Bolus injections, personalising our diabetes stuff, and so much more. There was a wide range of experience and it was great to share tips. We also recognised the mistakes that are made. They are just ‘normal’ things with T1: forgetting to Bolus, picking up the wrong insulin pen, remembering whether you bolused, ... . These along with tips on ways round them made for and enjoyable evening with a lot of laughter included.

Thanks to @VerityM and the DUK SW for hosting the event.
Nice to see @Flower there.

Watch out for what comes next.

It was a really enjoyable event. Lots of good tips and discussion on T1 and it is so good to virtually meet others dealing with diabetes. I’m very glad I signed up, lovely to see @SB2015 too. 🙂
