The All-In-One Dario Turns Your Smartphone Into a Meter

Yes, there is an assumption these days that everyone owns a smartphone - I don't! Hasn't this already been done with the ibgstar? I believe that the ibgstar fell down on accuracy - no point in making a finky, cool meter if it doesn't give reliable results!

I don't have a smart phone, my phone is just about as basic as you can get, I make calls on it and that's all.

Same as mine 🙂

I remember the first mobile phone's......you had to carry what looked like a car battery around with you!😱

I had to lug one of those about Ant, during my days in The City. Weighed a ton and had a battery life of at least 30 minutes. The battery looked like something pinched out of a car.

When I was out at clients there was a time when I'd be carting a laptop and it's bits, my PDA and it's bits and my phone and all it's bits around with me, and all the paperwork associated with the job. About the same weight as an average three year old. My muscles had muscles in those days. Now, I have a smartphone that I'm very happy with, my tablet of course and the lappy. The only one I carry everywhere now is the phone, I'll take the tablet if I need a larger screen for something. The lappy stays at home for the most part.

I'd be interested in this meter, if only because it looks more portable than my current beast and all it's paraphernalia. And then too, I'm a technophile, I just love gadgets... Provided I can see the usefulness of them.

I don't have a smart phone either, im a big believer that a phone is for making
"PHONE CALLS" 🙂

you're not alone, my phone is my phone, my camera is my camera and my tester is my tester...

I can see the argument, but. That's three separate things you might have to carry with you. If one gadget can do the job well, why not carry the one?

Seen too many people have one part of their gadget break down then not be able to use the rest of it

Ah yes, but that's where the research pays off before you buy. One of my mates has to have the latest toys, always and is always moaning about how they go wrong on her. Silly moo would be better off reading the reviews than shelling out because she liked the advert.

Her latest toy cost hundreds of squid and has been nothing but trouble, support is hopeless and she's spending another fortune trying to get it sorted. The thing is always dying on her in the middle of a call, it's battery life is a joke. As for me, I spent days looking at specs and reviews for mine before I bought it and I'm really pleased with it. No tech problems at all at least for the year I've owned it. I listen to the radio on mine most days, make calls, do texts, take pics, whatever and it lasts all day.

I feel the same way Caroline all I want from my phone is to make or receive calls

I think it is a case of horses for courses. There is no right or worng answer/solution, we do whatever works for us as individuals.

The ibgstar was only available on the iphone - this one will be available on Android phones as well. While not everyone has a smartphone, they are a large part of the phone market, and they're not forcing you to use the meter 😉

Personally, I really like the idea, even if it's only for the convenience of being able to stick that tiny thing in my pocket when I go out! I'm like Alison - I use my phone for pretty much everything, so I'm keen to try it and see what it's like.

B***r I've got a windows phone.
I just can't understand why it doesn't use bluetooth then it wouldn't matter which phone (as long as the app worked on it), then you could connect it to Macs and PCs and you wouldn't need to plug it into your phone either.

In the meantime I'm chasing something that's appeared on the Ypsomed website:

http://en.mylife-diabetescare.com/mylife-unio-overview.html
looks like a neat package and no gimmicky marketing.

I really like the look of this because it solves the problem of the iBGStar - you have a portable lancet AND it'll work in both the iPhone 4 and the 5.

The only downer for me is this still comes with strips - what I like about my current Accu-Chek mobile is I don't have any strips to throw away. I would definitely go for this!

I'm like Alison, I'm very happy to use my 'phone' as an 'everything' device.

I think the Dario wins over the Ypsomed device because it calculates insulin dose. I'd use it if it proved accurate. Am currently using the Inslinx, but the display is truly appalling and I can barely see it sometimes if I don't have my glasses on e.g. in the middle of the night when I wake feeling odd sometimes. The DNS is giving me the Accuchek Xpert but I'm waiting for my pump which will have it's own meter which talks to it.
