The advantage of a CGM app

Some people have commented that they don't like using a phone app to read their CGM because they don't like to take their phone to bed with them. My phone lived away from from bed until I got a CGM and I have been careful not to get lulled into reading my phone in bed unless I really needed to.

Last night, I really benefited from having my phone next to my bed. I have a work trip which meant a flight today. I packed yesterday so I was ready to go. At 3am, I suddenly woke and realised I had not packed my passport. I could have got up and found it. But I didn't want to get out of bed. So, I grabbed my "CGM reader" aka mobile phone and sent myself a message. as a result, I was fully packed for my trip within 5 minutes of getting out of bed at a reasonable hour.
This would never have been possible without the phone which wouldn't have been there if I didn't use it to read my CGM.

The wonders of technology.

Haha! Love it @helli

I use my phone as an alarm clock, so it’s always there next to me, but I have all the “do not disturb’s” turned up to 11, and try my utmost to not fall into the trap of “just checking one more time” if I’m in bed.

I have a stack if books next to me, and if I want to read something - it’s one of those!

I’ve got over my hangup of having the phone by my bed!
Like @everydayupsanddowns I’ve got the Do Not Disturb maxed out. I still use the reader for my Libre, but my laptop died, and there’s not much point in me replacing it because I use my ipad mainly, and I can use OH's laptop if I need to. But it means I now use the phone to scan every 8 hours so it automatically uploads to Libreview, so I need it in the bedroom to swipe either side of my 8 hours' beauty sleep.

I have used my phone as my alarm clock for years, (I hate ticking, clocks with lights, or battery powered) and due to the old days of MDI and DP I would arise earlier than the rest of the household so I have kept it as close to me as possible. Now I am on HCL I do one last check after I've put my lotions (face, hands and feet) and that's it. This HCL has been a winner for my overnight control and sleep.

I do like that you managed to use the phone in this way. They are tools. They have a lot of downsides but some of the wins are really helpful.

I always switched my phone of when went to bed, only person that really needed to get in touch with me through the night was my mam, she used the landline. Some family used to say ur phones not on, can’t get in touch with you, a just said tough if emergency I have a landline

I always have my phone by my bed as a precaution. I often use it as an alarm too. I have a Dexcom Receiver for my G7, and that sits by my phone, along with a packet of Dextro. Not the world’s most exciting bedside table

I got rid of my landline a few years ago when it was switched to Digital Voice and mobile contract prices became cheaper for voice calls.
It took a while for my parents to get used to it but even they have stopped complaining 🙂

My mam had a mobile, but wasn’t very good with it. Phoned sky to cancel it after mam passed, but apparently don’t pay for line rental it’s all in with internet

While you can get packages including landline, I was able to get a much cheaper package for broadband only.
As we rarely used the landline, we just had to educate parents to call our mobiles.

My comment above was about my parents calling our mobiles from their landline.
They do have mobiles but only switch them on when they make calls and then turn them off immediately.

Will have to have a look see if I can get package with broadband only. We don’t use ours either, won’t be replacing phone when it’s done
