I had a follow up appt with my diabetic nurse today, three weeks after my initial visit. I am so thrilled that she felt I was managing things really well and seemed to have got to grips with diet and activity, I have lost 4lb in three weeks and the amazing thing is, I’m eating better and more regularly than when I was on slimming world 😱 My feet are also fine and my bg is now a steady 5 - 6, I was able to track back and explain previous peaks in relation to what I had eaten or where I hadn’t walked 🙂
I am SO grateful to you all, current and previous posts have been my ‘bible’ and taught me how to do things, how to use testing and to be patient with myself. I dread to think how I would have coped without your experience so thank you so much. I really hope in time that my experience will encourage and help others :D

Down side was she absolutely refused to give me any more testing strips so again, thanks to the info here, I have ordered the code free kit with the much cheaper strips and so will continue to test as I feel the need!

That's so lovely to hear @CathyB 🙂 It's all your hard work putting theory into practice, so give yourself a big pat on the back and keep it up! 🙂 Very mean of your nurse to acknowledge how well you have done, but then to refuse to prescribe the test strips that helped you get to where you are - makes no sense at all! :(

I'm sure your story and experiences will encourage others, so thank you for posting 🙂

You put in all the hard work, we just pointed you in the right direction. So give yourself a huge pat on the back.
One day the nhs will realise just how important self testing is for us.

Amazing stuff @CathyB - don’t underestimate your own part in your success. You came looking for support, and have been able to apply the experiences of others to your own situation (and then stick at it!) with brilliant results.

Well done and long may our successes continue 🙂

Fantastic news. I've found the advice and support on this forum, literally lifesaving.

Well done on your hard work 🙂

Thank you Cathy we're glad to have been of help ~ its good to hear that you're doing so well ~ but do you know what ~ it was yourself who managed to maintain in range glucose levels because of your own tenacity & determination to succeed in managing your Diabetes ~ and you recognised what you needed to do to get to grips with your Diabetes ~ so well done you:D Pity your Nursie won't prescribe test strips from now on ~ but I doubt the reason she gave you for not doing so had anything to do with your excellent management of your Diabetes!! We do need test strips to keep on top of our individual diabetes. Keep up the good work x
