Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
A few months ago I posted my concerns regards my GP stopping my Metformin and trying me on other meds after nine years of being ok with metformin but having some tummy issues which I am aware many of you have experienced like myself. After three months of my BS levels tripling I eventually with your advice and suggestions I consulted with my diabetic nurse and we agreed I would take half my metformin in morning and the other after my evening meal. I take 80mg Gliclazide half hour before morning and evening meals. I have started monitoring my carb intake which I had neglected and gradually lowering my daily intake to a level I’m happy with and it seems to be working. After five weeks my BS levels are between 5-8 ( 8 only occasionally due to birthday cake celebrations) instead of 15-17. I have had no upset tummy since changing when I take my metformin, fingers crossed. I am hoping this will continue. My grateful thanks to all of you you who gave me encouragement and hope that I could find a way to reduce my sugars on a daily basis and some of your advise did work for me. I am having more bloods in three months time and truly hope that with my results if they stay stable my Hbc1 levels will be back to an acceptable level.
I am so thankful to be part of this forum.

Thank you. I had a really anxious time these past 4 months after years of being ok. During the pandemic my bloods started to rise, not greatly at the time but enough to start getting a bit concerned, and then the stomach issues and GP stopping metformin as the cause. On reflection I believe my stomach issues were due to being anxious and stressed with Covid situation and loosing three family members to Covid. I managed to have a long chat with the DNurse and chatted about this possibility and she agreed this might have been the cause and worth another try. So we made a plan to return to using it with advice from other members of this forum to try to prevent any tummy issues and it seems to have worked so far. I also am aware I got a bit lax checking my carb intake and baking more and eating more than I should have during lockdowns. I have had a few phone appointments with my DN who has been encouraging and I will be working with her in the future now things seem to be getting back to some normality at GP practices.

What great results @Scottie Lottie, your hard work is paying off. Keep it up! 🙂 x
