Hi I was diagnosed T2 Yesterday. The nurse tested my blood sugar level with a small device. Do I buy one of these myself and if so can anyone recommend which brand to buy. Regards Neil

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis :( It certainly helps a lot if you can test your blood glucose levels at home, as you can build up experience of how well (or otherwise!) your body can tolerate your food choices - otherwise you're just guessing, and as people can have quite different tolerances to each other there's no simple list of good and bad things. Have a read of Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S to understand how to test to best effect 🙂 If you do decide to buy a meter (you should ask your GP/nurse first as they may prescribe test strips for you) the cheapest option we have come across is the SD Codefree Meter which has test strips at around £8 for 50 (High St brands can charge up to £30 for 50 strips 😱)

Other very useful things that will help you get to grips with things are reading Maggie Davey's letter and getting a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker 🙂 With those, plenty of determination and our help, you will be on the right road to get things under good control, so if you have ANY questions, please just let us know 🙂
