I know the next PCT over have done this and the meter they are using is this one.

They managed to negotiate a cheaper rate for all their patients to use it.

I really hope this doesn't happen in my PCT

Thanks Nikki, I see it's Indian, no doubt that has a bearing on the price. I think the previous one was from a Chinese manufacturer but I've searched high and low and can't find the thread!

I suppose it would be hard to complain, unless the meters were inaccurate or difficult to use, plus it would mess up the record keeping of anyone using a particular meter's software. Have you tried looking in the BNF to see how much the strips are costing or don't things like that go in there when it's a locally negotiated thing?
 
I would imagine this will happen more once the gp consortia take over funding.
