Type 2
hi, I'm a type2 newbie after finding out on my bloods at my 40+nhs check...
had bloods took Thursday afternoon call from Dr Friday afternoon.
had Dr appointment Monday morning, to be told type 2...given meds of metformin and glicizine test machine, more bloods flu jab and appointment with diabetic nurse 19th march......all a little mind blowing and the fact that i have to increase my medication over the next few weeks and I'm a little unsure how quick to...
( 1 met 1glic at mo to increase to 4 met and 2 glic).....so I'm a bit here there and everywhere at the moment also unsure about carbs!!

Hi nina and welcome. I assume your GP was reacting to your HBA1C result. Do you know what it was? If you don't know what I am talking about, don't worry, nearly everybody starting on the type 2 roller coaster starts knowing nothing. Just ask away.

May I suggest that you get your self a notebook or a diary and start writing things down.... test results, dates you changed medication and whatever. Part of dealing with type 2 is you understanding how it is for you and being able to look back without relying on memory can be very useful in sorting things out.

Hi Nina, welcome to the forum, ask whatever questions you like, there’s always someone to help. I was only diagnosed in January so know how you feel. I started on 1 Metformin and it was increased by one each week until I was on 4. Am still learning myself but do know that you need to reduce your carbs as much as possible so that’s bread, pasta, rice and potatoes etc. Just do it in stages as these are big but achievable changes. Look through the posts here and you will learn lots. All the best Nina

If you are serious about reducing carbs then - along with many others you might go back to normal results for your blood tests and shock your GP rigid.
Mine hasn't spoken to me for over two years - I think he's sulking.
Be aware though, low carb is very effective and you are taking medication which could drop your BG level into hypo levels. Be sure to test and get back to your clinic if you see low figures.

Hello everyone,
I've seen that lowing carbs can make a big change.
I've been trying for year now but HbA1c is 8.8 from the last time I saw my diabetic nurse

What have you been trying?
I hope that you have not been going down the 'eat brown not white' cul de sac - for many type twos that is not going to lower Hba1c as we get the same carbs out of the food being too efficient at digesting them.
I am not sure what 8.8 converts to with Hba1c, but it is AFAIK in the diabetic range.

I think it’s around 70, and yes, carbs is carbs is carbs for me. They all hit, and hit hard.
