T1 or T2... feeling blue

I've just got my antibodies results back and they are all negative. Not sure why this is upsetting me so much. I'm a black, healthy weight 40 year old when diagnosed 4 weeks ago. Started insulin within 48 hours of diagnosis (basal bolus) after a rapid uptitration of gliclizide did nothing to my BMs 26->33. Still on metformin and now taking 1.5g a day, which is starting to allow me start to reducing my basal dose. I think it may be due to the idea of me thinking T1/LADA not my fault, but T2 somehow is. I could just cry. Sounds silly but I got my medical alert necklace all sorted, but it says T1 as that's what they thought I was... but now I just don't know.
Definitely been here! I was the same when my antibodies came back negative - just started on Metformin and will see if that has an impact. Seems silly to say, but I’m not sure if I want it to or not! How are you getting on with reducing insulin?

Well, Im currently stuck at work as Im in the midst of what I like to call "hypo party". Reduced my basal this morning, as Ive had a few hypos the last few days despite having less bolus. At my most I was on basal 48 units and bolus 6-8 units with meals. As of today, Im on basal 26 units and have only had 2 units of bolus with lunch today. Im now on metformin 2g/day, so I think thats why my insulin requirements are going down. C-peptide has been sent off, so will wait and see what that result comes back at.

@TomI , are you still on insulin?

Ugh sounds c**p - sorry to hear. I’m still on 16 basal (no reduction) but not taking lunchtime bolus any more, just evening (2-4 units dependent on carbs in my meal).

Glucose seems to be fairly stable without it, no extreme highs, but probably not as consistently low as I seemed to be able to keep it - but then I haven’t reduced much insulin really! I’m just on 500mg Metformin in the morning at the moment.

Due to check in with the diabetes centre tomorrow so will see how they recommend to proceed… good luck with your C Peptide results, I’m still waiting for a referral!

Tom
