Good news - as some of you know, I am taking swimming lessons 😱 and tonight I SWAM without arm-bands or arm-discs....yippeee... :D I did have second thoughts about going today but glad I was encouraged too by my son and husband.....

P.S. My sugars have been slightly highter today - must have been the meal we had last night...I was very good and had caesar salad and salmon and I know I shouldn't have but I did have cheese and crackers and enjoyed it 😛 (turned down favourite of 'sticky toffee pudding and custard':()

You're an inspiration Amanda, well done! 🙂 Isn't it a great feeling, knowing how not to sink! You'll be swimming lengths before too long 🙂

You have mentioned swimming lessons once or twice, Newtothis - always entertaining and encouraging 🙂

Once you're happy putting your face under water, a whole new range of sports opens up, including snorkling, SCUBA diving, kayaking etc. 🙂

Excellent news, I bet you felt ecstatic..

Yes, well done for keeping at the lessons. British Sub Aqua club next is it?😉

WOOOOO WELL DONE ...i hate swimmming in pools cos of the chlorine but rivers lakes and the sea ...yes yes please !

Hey!! Well done Amanda! Dead proud of you.:D Love Katiexx

Hello, good to have you back - did you have a good holiday...I feel great; legs were a little tired today from last night's swimming lesson - really looking forward to my class next week...🙂

Hi Amanda. Fab thankyou! A couple of pounds heavier but shifted them again quite quickly! Good to hear you're enjoying the swimming. Good for you! Katiex🙂

That's brilliant Amanda - you will never regret what you're doing and so lovely to have the family supportive of you! Keep it up and so many opportunities will open up for you.

Funny how this condition makes you re-evaluate everything and spurs you on to do things you have perhaps maybe previously intended to do but hadn't quite got round to yet. Bit like me and Twinkle going to the dentist for the first time in way too many years ......

Hope you keep enjoying it.

xx

As well as being fun, enjoyable and effective exercise, being able to swim leads to so many things - our Mum loved swimming, so, naturally took my sister and I from early ages, so we could both swim before we were 5 years old. It's led to swimming in some unusual places - wild beaches, streams, lakes, tarns, roof top pools in Bath and Petra etc - plus snorkling, SCUBA diving (although diabetes stopped any professional SCUBA diving), kayaking, canoeing, sailing, volunteering at water sections of triathlons and adventure races etc.

Keep getting wet, Amanda and everyone else 🙂

well done Amanda!!, i go swimming twice a week...1st time i went after a life time of not bothering...i actually forgot how to swim!!!🙄
anyway got the hang of it within the hour...i use one of those long tube float things....and swim up and down...up and down... lol...i can swim without it but i'm not a strong swimmer, but i still to get some cals by using my float and its a private pool so no one is watching lol...keep on going, helps with all your joints etc and helps keep you fit and numbers down xxxx

Hi there, being diagnosed was the kick up the backside I needed - I honestly thought I was 100% fit - however, since then I have lost nearly 2 1/2 stones in weight and my swimming is helping me lose more, at some point am hoping I'll have a washboard stomach :D I too booked a dentist appointment after about 7 years (shocking); and it wasn't as bad as I thought - 2 fillings and a scale and polish - only painful thing was paying the bill.... :(
