Sweets normal or diabetic?

its coming to that time of year again when I treat myself to some chocolate/sweets. Is it best to get normal or diabetic? i limit myself to a couple each day, know diabetic ones can give u the trots. Have found a site A 1/4 pound of (other sites are around) and they have both normal and sugar free old fasioned sweets that take me back to my childhood What do u think?
 
Personally I wouldn’t bother @gail2 If I do fancy some non-hypo treatment sweets, I just buy a small packet of sugar-free polos or those herbal ones (can’t remember the name but they’re in a tiny box and begin with R). No temptation to overeat either of those.

Sometimes I do buy different sweets as hypo treatments or before exercise and spread them over a long period of time, but that’s rare as they tend to go sticky before I can eat them.

Why not buy yourself a non-food treat like a book or toiletries?
 
I used to buy those Sula sugar free little sweets in the small boxes to tide me over until I broke the habit, particularly when driving. Supermarkets like Lidl did their own brand. The rhubarb and custard ones were quite nice, but I don't crave that now and manage to drive long distances without feeling hat I need to be sucking on something sweet. I have the odd square of 70% dark chocolate and I buy that throughout the year as an occasional treat and have it with a spoon of peanut butter to make it more satisfying.

I generally keep my hypo treatments to Jelly Babies as I am not tempted to eat them at any other time. I tried other things but they tempted me too much whereas JBs seem to be safe from temptation.
 
I didn't think shops were allowed to label food as "diabetic" any more.
So, I would be suspicious of anywhere that is still marketing them as such.

I think treats are important - life would be boring if we didn't have treats. But only you know what is important to you.
If you had "normal" sweets, could you ration them or would you eat them all one? Do you like dark chocolate which is lower is carbs and sugar? Do you like other lower carb foods such as a nice block of cheese?

Hello, I think the choice is yours. I’ve seen “ye olde” retro sweet shops on my travels with the big loose sweet jars labeled “sugar free” along side the full fat jars. I read an article way back about there being a market for a generation just wanting a flavour from their youth? Just be carful you don’t mistakenly use the sugar free ones in the event of a low.

Riccola herbal sweets. I used to buy them when I lived in Germany. They were quite popular there. Nice to suck a few on a long car journey to stop your mouth drying out
 
Not really tempted by sweets at the moment although I still enjoy a square or two of good quality dark chocolate. I have always preferred dark chocolate to milk or white, even as a child. Miss dark bounty's. Don't see them very often now but used to get a couple of bars pre- diagnosis.

Have so many books that Im having to have shelves put up Toiletries i have a six month supply of shower gels/deodorant/
 
Be careful of buying sugar free sweeties from "Olde fashioned" sweetie shops. Back when I did I found that more often than not they were stale!

I now just buy dark chocolate and enjoy a square from time to time.
 
Provided you can tolerate them bg wise then normal sweets would be my preference, having a sweet treat ccasionally makes you feel good & that is a great thing.
 
We bought some 'suitable for diabetics' chocolates off the internet, they were expensive and vile.
Dark chocolate eaten in small pieces is far nicer. I bought a dark choc Toblerone recently and it was very nice, 1 triangle at a time.
 
I’d go fewer ‘normal’ ones.

Sugar free have always neem disappointing, and the prospect of painful wind or digestive upheaval makes them a no-go for me.
