Hi just wondering is it ok to us sweetener is a brew now and again, i have bought one and this is what is in it Dextrose, Sweetener (Sucralose), Anti-Caking Agents (L-Leucine, Crosslinked Carboxy Methyl Cellulose), Maize Starch.

But when i search for dextrose that does not sound to good, any info and better product advice would be helpful, thanks.

I’m guessing that it’s going to better to not have them at all but then again you’re only having a tiny amount in the odd cuppa so it shouldn’t be too bad.

Does it tell you how many grams carb there are in a teaspoonful or per tablet as it appears to consist of things which are carbohydrates, dextrose just another name for glucose, starch, also carb.
The Canderel website has good info about the range of sweeteners and what they are suitable for and carb info.

What is the actual brand name so we can do a web search and give you advice on that particular product?

My personal belief is that we are better doing without sweeteners wherever we can and your tastes definitely do change. I adjusted to tea without sugar/sweetener when I met my partner years ago because he drinks it without and kept making mine without as well. I always said that I would rather not drink coffee as drink it without sugar/sweetener, but I cut it at diagnosis and added cream instead and now my morning coffee with double cream (cream is lower carb than milk) is my daily treat and I savour every mouthful, so your tastes definitely do change if you are prepared to persist with changing them. I do however still drink the odd rum and diet cola or flavoured water which contain sweeteners, however what I do is dilute them, so I have an inch or two in the bottom of the glass and then top up with tap water. I started off with mostly the flavoured stuff and just a bit of water and gradually went to half and half and now just a bit to give the water some flavour.

You have to find what works for you though, so if you find that a sweetener helps you to transition to a lower carb lifestyle then go for it. I find that many sweeteners have a horrid aftertaste so that put me off in the end. I have cupboards full of the various jars, packets and dispensers that I have tried and not been impressed with!
