Is sweet potato better for you than ordinary? I see lots of diabetes related cook books use sweet potato instead of ordinary. I wondered if they would be better for me?

Excellent - I've got one for dinner tonight. I'm hoping that you cook like normal ones - I'm going to mash it with a diddly bit of flora. Hope it is nice!! I love potatoes & miss them on a dinner.

Aye I just cook it on 190 degrees for 40 mins but i always microwave it first to soften it x

enjoy

Also, mixing regular potato with sweet potato is an option, especially if you mash them together.

I use it a lot, whether mashed, chipped or roasted and I love it. I had some tonight mashed on top of a chicken and mushroom thing I baked in the oven.

I don't think I like em, although it must be 20 years since I tried it - I wasn't at all impressed at the time. Still there's plenty of other veg I do like!

According to Collins' - they are higher carb than spuds. Boiled per 100g it reckons they are 20.5g whereas old potatoes are 17g.

I think the theory is that they retain their higher GI when mashed due to their more fibrous pulp.

Ordinary tats just go to slush but sweets tend to be a bit stringy.

Technically speaking of course. :D
