I had a letter from my surgery today that they want to take another hba1c, cholesterol, lipids, creatinine, full blood count as I was pre-diabetic.

I called them and explained I went on a diabetes prevention programme and had four normal hba1cs and the co-ordinators were supposed to be sending the results to the GP so I thought they had. Anyway, surgery called them and now they say they don't send results to GP if they are normal. That seems barmy to me as how on earth is the GP supposed to know what it going on! Anyway, I have told them over the phone the results and said I will go and have the tests when I have got over this cold virus I have. Sec did write them down but said they should really come from someone "officially" so will need to have the tests they have sent me for which I am happy to do. My GPs are very good and I am just trying to avoid wasting appointments.

That's crazy @Maz2! As you say, why wouldn't you send the results to the GP, whether normal or otherwise? They are surely part of your medical record! 🙄 What a waste of money and effort :(

Who took the blood for the tests?

They did it at the diabetes prevention. They had equipment from the hospital. I enquired about whether I could buy one even though they are quite big but I was told they were very expensive - about £2,000. They were loaned the equipment to take 4 tests during the 12 months of the programme.

Self testing meters, for finger prick test, can cost £25 (approx) and test strips at £8 for 50 (if you get the right meter). I've seen the Codefree recomended.

The machine Maz2 is talking of is one to do HBA1C without being sent to a lab.
